It’s our first day back for fall session and my foster benefits legislation finally passed the House, 202 to 1 🎉

For too long, money that was intended for vulnerable youth in the foster system has been intercepted and spent by counties. In Philadelphia and across the Commonwealth.

This money could be life changing for young people, who could use it to pay for housing, food, and education when they age out of care.

PA is one of the only states left in the country yet to address this loophole. This issue isn’t partisan — the federal administration has made it clear we need to act.

I appreciate the years of collaboration with my friend Representative Sheryl Delozier and the persistent advocacy by PPC Defender Assoc of Philadelphia Community Legal Services and Support Center for Child Advoc

Let’s get HB151 through the Senate!

I had a great time at the Parent Infant Center for their resource fair! Thank you for all the work you for our youngest neighbors.

Let’s win universal child care and good wages for all providers!

Proud to announce I secured another $800,000 in funding for the Clark Park Plan, bringing total grants my office secured for the project up to $2 million!

This Local Share Account award will replace sidewalks throughout the park that are in deep need of repair after decades of heavy use. This will improve traffic flow between park features and accessibility for the park’s many visitors!

We just secured nearly 4 million in State Grants, through the Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program! Highlights I’m proud of include:

⭐️ 500k to redevelop affordable housing units at the UC Townhomes
⭐️ 1 million for the Clark Park Plan, focusing on lighting, sidewalks and new picnic tables
⭐️ 1 million for expanding the CCP Career Advancement & Technology Center Welding Program

Let’s go!!

Today, my third bill of the week supporting at-risk youth took an important step forward and was voted out of commiteee.

HB151 addresses a problem I’ve worked on for years: counties intercepting and spending benefits intended for foster youth within their care.

For so many, this money could make a huge difference — preventing housing or food security, or opening the door to going to college.

Written in collaboration with my friend and colleague across the aisle PA State Rep. Sheryl Delozier, our bill ensures that benefits are preserved and protected for young people.

Like HB 133 and HB 138, which passed the House on Monday, this bill was written in collaboration by and for some of our most vulnerable young people, to ensure they have what they need to survive and thrive.

Incredibly excited about the amount of support we’ve built and ready bring it home. 💪🏾

Victory! We just passed HB 133 and HB 138 out of the House with overwhelming bipartisan support.

These bills are about holding together and reuniting families impacted by the child welfare system.

HB 133, which passed 191-11, creates a pathway to rights reinstatement for parents who’ve done the work to reunite with their children. Thank you to my colleague PA State Rep. Sheryl Delozier who worked closely with me across the aisle to get it done!

HB 138 passed 200-2, and protects incarcerated parents from unfairly and permanently losing their rights to see their family, solely due to incarceration.

When we talk about child welfare reform, we’re talking about supporting working class families. Poor, Black and Brown families.

Incredibly proud to do this work — drafting, advocating and organizing — alongside families across the state.

Philly Voice Philly Voice Children First PPC Community Legal Services and so many more led the way for this powerful, bipartisan victory!

Our white supremacist President is cowardly going to court to protect secret ICE police from scrutiny and accountability.

In Philly, we protect all of our neighbors no matter what we look like or where we from. And we don’t like bullies.

It’s time to tax Bezos, Musk and Yass.

Working people — and our schools, transit and hospitals — are facing down a fiscal crisis. But we have the policy and people power to take on the 1 percent.
