Peru Rotary Club

James Stamper from Miami Correctional Facility came to give insight about staffing, inmates and the facility. They currently have over 2400 inmates and 371 staff with 16 houses. They have skilled training for the inmates including barber, factor work and braille shop transcribing books for the blind. Many volunteer groups come in to train and visit with inmates.

The club visited Rotary Park aka Harmony Park as we look forward to a clean up day to spruce things up. We are also looking forward to adding more instruments. If you would like to make a donation toward helping please message this page.

Peru Fire Cheif Robert Daine shared with the club the history of the Peru Fire Department. In 1843 volunteers started fighting fires from the location at Main and Miami with horse and wagon. 1920 31 staff were paid $100 per month. 1926 the Washington Street location was established. With upgrade of trucks they moved to the Washington Street trustees building (swap locations). 2022 this station was moved to Broadway. With growth and need or more trucks the main station moved to Canal. This location is staffed 7-8 people each shift.

Guest speakers today Joannah Wildermuth and Hannah Early from North Miami FFA Dairy Team. The team is preparing for their well deserved trip to Scotland, Ireland and England. They competed in a National Judging competition to earn this trip. Calie France and Riley Kling will also be attending. They could still use some financial support to pay for the trip.
