The Perry Area Historical Society is leading an effort to build a Veterans Memorial Wall in Legacy Park in Perry, Georgia, as part of the Semiquincentennial celebration. The memorial will honor nearly 2,000 veterans from Houston County who served in conflicts ranging from the Revolutionary War to the Middle East wars. Legacy Park is located at the end of Carroll Street near the Courtney Hodges Bridge. Organizers believe the memorial is long overdue as a tribute to the sacrifices and service of local military men and women. The project will feature black granite walls with white lettering mounted on a stone base. The total cost of the memorial is estimated at $75,000. The Historical Society is asking the community to help fund the project through donations. Contributions are tax deductible because the Perry Area Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Donations should be made payable to the Perry Area Historical Society and designated for the Veterans Memorial Wall. Contributions can be mailed to P.O. Box 2174, Perry, GA 31069. Community members are also encouraged to contact the organization by phone or email with any questions about the project.

Museum Monday: This stunning dress, crafted by Myrtle Blackstone for the Bicentennial Celebration and worn by Juanita Rentz, inspires us as we approach our country's 250th year of freedom. As we near this momentous Fourth of July, what meaningful attire will we choose to commemorate this milestone year?
