Helping Friends and Logging Flights ✈️🚁 06/21/2026

Saturday, 20 June 2026 - Storms were still in the area, but you never would have known it from this morning's conditions. The skies were calm, the winds were manageable, and it turned out to be a great opportunity to get some flying in before the weather changed again.

I decided to bring out the E-flite V1200, put in some more practice flights with the Freewing F-22A Raptor, and spend some time flying the Flywing OH-58 Kiowa. Every flight was a good reminder of why I enjoy having a variety of aircraft in the hangar.

Speaking of Flywing, is anyone else interested in their upcoming X-Wing FPV drone? I'm not quite as excited about it as I am the upcoming Freewing F-35C Lightning II 110mm, but it's definitely got my attention.

A portion of the morning was also spent helping Pilot Carson get his E-flite F-16 Thunderbird set up and assisting with a few other projects around the field. Even with the time spent helping others, I still managed to get in most of the flights I had planned.

Not a bad way to spend a morning before the next round of storms decides to show up.

Hardcore Pilots Fly Between Thunderstorms ✈️⚡ 06/19/2026

Woke up this morning to thunderstorms and high winds, but within an hour of sunrise the winds had dropped to almost nothing. There was no way I was going to pass up an opportunity to fly before the next round of storms arrived later this afternoon.

My main mission was to test the GPS speed callouts on the latest Freewing F-22A Raptor (02) 90mm V2. As for the haters of my audio alerts (Bitchin Betty)... you may want to sit this one out. 😄

I started the morning flying alone, enjoying the calm skies and smooth air. Before long, a few of the club's hardcore members showed up to take advantage of the perfect—albeit temporary—flying conditions.

The Raptor performed flawlessly, and the GPS callouts added another layer of fun to the flights. It's amazing how quickly conditions can change, especially during storm season, but for a brief window we were treated to one of those rare mornings that remind us why we love this hobby.

Sometimes all you need is a calm sunrise, a good airplane, and a few fellow pilots willing to chase the weather.
