Busy Week for Pendleton Professional Firefighters Local 2296

Pendleton Fire & Ambulance had a very busy week responding to multiple wildland fires in and around our community. After review, none of these fires are considered suspicious in origin.

In addition to those incidents, our crews responded to 101 calls for service last week.

We also reached Level 0 staffing nine times. Level 0 means there were no available on-duty personnel to immediately respond to another call because crews were already committed to emergencies.

Our firefighter/paramedics continue to work hard to provide the best possible service to Pendleton and the surrounding area, even during periods of high call volume and limited staffing.

PFD is now responding to a natural cover fire at Hwy 11 and Moens Rd

PFD is responding to a reported grass fire near Hodgen Distributing on Westgate. Please stay clear of the area.

Union President Jared Uselman was able to get Retired Lieutenant Craig Murstig his retirement plaque for his many years of service! We love you brother, stop by and visit. Enjoy retirement!

Your firefighters are currently assisting Tribal fire with the Emigrant Springs fire. We were dispatched to the fire at 1:19pm.

**Station 2/Southgate Construction Update**

Pendleton Professional Firefighters Local 2296 wants to share an update with the citizens of Pendleton regarding Station 2/Southgate.

Station 2 is currently under construction for necessary seismic upgrades and improvements to the living quarters. This project is grant-funded and has been planned for over a year.

These upgrades are important for the long-term safety and functionality of the station. They will also help make the building better suited for modern fire department staffing, including coed living conditions.

During construction, Station 2 cannot function in its normal configuration. Our firefighters are continuing to adapt and make every effort to maintain fire and ambulance coverage in the Station 2 response area.

Crews are using temporary quarters near Station 2 and working with the available resources to continue serving the Southgate area.

This temporary setup is not ideal, but our members are making it work.

Multiple large wildfires are being fought by your Pendleton Professional Firefighters. We have units assisting UCFD #1 on a fire in their district and units south on a wind driven grass fire that is about 300 acres.

Definitions:
Fire type calls are a range of calls including structure fires, ground cover fires, fire alarms, and burn complaints.
Medical calls are calls dispatched with a medical complaint.
Other calls include calls for assistance that don't fit the above categories.
Recall is used to backfill our on-duty crew, or an attempt to staff interfacility transfers with off-duty staff. At any point when less than 4 personnel are available recall is sent in an attempt to backfill back to a minimum staffing of 4 personnel. We have the ability to staff two general medical calls simultaneously without needing to send recall.
Level 1 means we only had one staffed unit (Ambulance or Fire Apparatus) available in the City of Pendleton.
Level 0 means we zero staffed units available in the City of Pendleton.
