Last fall, Sandy Macnab was posthumously selected as the Oregon Wheat 2025 Voice of the Industry. At last weekโs celebration in Moro, Oregon, we recognized Sandyโs family and presented the award to two of his children, Jen Macnab Brost and Scott Macnab.
Sandy served as a voice for wheat producers in the north-central part of the state for many decades, devoting much of his career to Oregon agriculture as an Oregon State University Extension Agent for Sherman and Wasco counties, earning statewide and national recognition for his commitment to grower education. He served on numerous boardsโincluding the Soil and Water Conservation District, Oregon Wheat Growers League, and Sherman County Fair Boardโwhere his guidance strengthened local community development. Sandy shared his humor and insight through his long-running newspaper column "Off the Farm," as well as through countless local events and tours that connected producers and the public. His dedication, community spirit, and advocacy for Oregon wheat continue to leave a lasting legacy that embodies the true voice of the industry.

Last fall, Dr. Bill Jepsen was selected for the Oregon Wheat 2025 Outstanding Volunteer Award, and at last weekโs celebration in Moro, Oregon, we were finally able to recognize him and his wife, Nancy, in person.
Dr. Jepsen was recognized for demonstrating exceptional volunteer leadership through his role on the Oregon Wheat Foundation Board and his efforts in spearheading the successful revival of the Foundationโs statewide baking contest. Through their generous donation of time, ideas, and support, Dr. Jepsen and Nancy have helped create an event that draws in new participants and highlights the value of our agricultural industry.

With multiple field days and the 100-year celebration event, last week was a busy one. Oregon Wheat closed it out by spending some time with the China End Products Collaborative team. ๐จ๐ณ๐พ
Hosted by U.S. Wheat Associates, this technical team spent a week in the Wheat Marketing Center lab analyzing different wheat classes with test bakes against a range of products, conducting a market survey, and assessing opportunities to better utilize U.S.-origin wheat. The team included representatives from three flour mills, as well as bakers and distributors.

100 years of history, challenges, research, progress, change, partnerships, and feeding the world faced together. As the first wheat commodity organization of its kind in the United States, the Oregon Wheat Growers League has had a lasting impact on the U.S. wheat industry and its customers worldwide.
Last week, the League, including over 200 members, past and present leadership, staff, industry partners, friends, and their families, gathered in Moro, Oregon, where the League began a century ago, to celebrate its 100th anniversary.
Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this milestone event a success!

"Wheat farming benefits rural communities by providing jobs for many people. In Sherman County, where I am from, most jobs lie within the wheat industry. According to the 2022 census of Agriculture there are 173 farms in Sherman County. Itโs not just the farmers, but the equipment dealers, Ag Vendors, elevator operators and others that keep a rural economy afloat and a harvest running efficiently. An urban economy reaps the benefits of the wheat industry as well. Grain merchandisers, mill operators, and exporters are all essential in getting a crop to market and provide much needed jobs throughout communities."
