A Warm Pendleton Welcome to the Model A Ford Club of America National Convention

This week, Pendleton is rolling out the red carpet — or should we say the vintage tire tracks — for the Model A Ford Club of America (MAFCA) 2026 National Convention. Running May 31 through June 7 at the Pendleton Convention Center, this gathering of classic car enthusiasts is bringing dozens (likely hundreds) of beautifully maintained 1928–1931 Fords and related vehicles to our town.

A big tip of the hat goes to Pat Beard, General Manager of the Pendleton Convention Center, and his team. Pat’s long-standing dedication to making our facilities a top destination for events like this has once again paid off, helping host a week full of driving tours, seminars, car judging, fashion contests, and plenty of old-iron camaraderie.

We’re especially grateful to the participants who didn’t just trailer their cars in — many have been driving these historic vehicles all over town and on regional tours to places like Heppner and Meacham. They’re staying in our hotels, eating at our local restaurants, shopping downtown, and enjoying what Eastern Oregon has to offer. That kind of visitor spending gives a real, tangible boost to Pendleton’s economy during what can otherwise be a quieter time of year. Events like this remind us how hospitality, history, and community can come together for everyone’s benefit.

At the same time, we hope these fine folks leave with nothing but good memories of Pendleton. Our community faces real challenges, including a visible homeless presence that has grown in recent years and higher-than-average crime rates compared to many similar-sized towns (particularly property crimes). It would be a shame if any visitor encountered issues that leave a sour taste about our town. These Model A enthusiasts represent the best of classic American car culture — hardworking, courteous people who appreciate craftsmanship and tradition. They deserve the safe, welcoming experience Pendleton is capable of providing.

Let’s use this moment as motivation. Supporting strong local events like this convention builds pride and economic resilience. At the same time, addressing root issues around homelessness, public safety, and quality of life will help ensure every visitor — and every resident — sees the best side of our community.
Safe travels to all the Model A drivers, and thank you again to Pat Beard and the Convention Center crew for helping make it happen. Pendleton looks great with those classics cruising the streets!
