We enjoyed hearing from Lane Hagan, Executive Director of Libby's Friends! Lane shared the mission of Libby's Friends with our Adult/Teen Program and Pediatric Therapy Clinic. Libby's Friends has already provided medical equipment to several of our friends over the years. Yesterday, it was great to hear more about the great work Libby's Friends has accomplished in our community and how both of our programs can partner with Libby's Friends.

We were thrilled to have Alabama State Representative Mr. Ontario Tillman visit our Adult/Teen Program office and our Pediatric Therapy Clinic yesterday. Thank you for your time and eagerness to learn more about Easterseals of the Birmingham Area!

We are thankful for the many, amazing Birmingham companies where our Summer Interns worked this summer! We presented these companies with certificates to show our appreciation. Thank You!!

A look back at our awesome Summer Internship Program! We were thrilled to have 51 interns in our program this summer. We are thankful for all the local businesses that partnered with us and gave these interns great work experiences!

We said goodbye to our Adult/Teen Program Summer Intern with cake last week! She did a great job assisting with multiple projects this summer. We will miss seeing her smile and helpful personality, but we are proud to see her go on to her next adventure!

We are thrilled to have met this amazing author, Alana Smith of Sleeping Bird Books today, as she donated two cases of her book Magic Air to our Pediatric Therapy Clinic! Alana is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). She wrote this book to prepare kids for surgery and take the scary out of anesthesia—the magic air!

Thank you, Alana, and all the donors who made it possible for us to receive these books. We can share them with the children who attend our Pediatric Therapy Clinic to prepare them for surgery.

Thank you to Taziki's Mediterranean Cafe for catering our Adult/Teen Program lunch with AL Power Foundation today! We are thankful for the friendships we have created with AL Power Foundation, Telra and Jasmine. It was great to fill them in on our recent job placements and internship success this summer over lunch!

We had a big graduation celebration today! We are thankful for the encouraging words given to this graduating class by one of our ADRS Counselors and Wallace, Adult Program Manager.

A couple of our Speech Therapists met with Children's Rehabilitation Services to discuss alternative communication devices and how to partner to bridge the communication gap for our patients and families!

Our Summer Internship Program is in full swing! We are thrilled to have one of our interns working with us at our Easterseals office. She has already been able to learn and work with our Development and Operations departments!

We are proud of one of our consumers who is working on his electrical apprenticeship with Nixon's Electric!

Excited for therapy and that it’s Friday!!

We hosted our Summer JETS Takeoff Training Class for our Summer Interns yesterday! This class prepared the students to start their internships next week. They learned a lot from Financial Literacy and the Do's and Don'ts of the Work Place and were able to experience our very cool Virtual Career Exploration program. There was lots of learning, fun and new friendships made during the JETS Takeoff Training Class.

Thank you to the Birmingham Career Center for letting us host our event in their space. Also, a big thank you to Shipley Do-Nuts in Hoover for donating breakfast for our class.

We are so proud of these students and cannot wait for a fantastic summer of Internships!

This morning, we had the privilege of attending the United Way of Central Alabama 2024 Pacesetter Kickoff breakfast! We heard from great speakers, including Mike Kemp, Pacesetter Chair, and visited with Lynden Blake WBRC. We are thankful for our partnership with United Way of Central Alabama; thank you for having us!

As we close out May, Speech Therapy Month, we want to shine a spotlight on our Speech Therapists: Ray Boyd, Ashley Epperson, Caroline Cusimano, Caitilin Gilbert, Jane Howard, and Sidney Searchfield!!
