On this day back in 1942, the Quartermaster Corps of the US Army began training dogs for the new War Dog Program known as βK-9 Corpsβ Over a million dogs served on both sides of World War 1, but the most famous dog to come out of war, was none other than Rin Tin Tin. He was brought to the United States in 1919 and made his film debut in 1922, and made the little-known German Shepherd breed famous across the country.
