Carle created or co-created many of the books I've read to small children over the years, from "Caterpillar" to "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" and more. His art, deceptively complex, fascinates me. I'm so happy there is a museum dedicated to his work, plays based on his books, and many a chewed-on copy of "The Grouchy Ladybug" at the library.
"At the end... he was a beautiful butterfly."
