Looking forward to the Painting, Poetry & Music exhibition at Beanrunner 🎨✍️🎶 Painters had 40 minutes to a respond to a poem while a musician played guitar in front of an audience. I painted alongside Artist Nikah Benne. We each separately responded to Nina Belen Robins poem ‘Bacteria’ while Brian Conigliaro played guitar. Come see the results of this fun collaboration! Here’s my piece, Bacteria Response.

Monique Brideau Abstract Collage at Warner Library
Tarrytown, NY
July 1 - September 30, 2022
These pieces are inspired by landscape and living in the Hudson Valley. These abstract collages are created from deconstructing and reassembling pieces of old works on paper from the artist’s art school years. The materials include oil on primed paper, drawings, etchings and lithographs. Leftover borders from printmaking are used for adding watercolor, pencil and marker drawings that are incorporated into the collage.
Monique is passionate about this process because there is no waste. By repurposing her own pieces, she seeks to give her old art new life. This rebirthed art develops into a stronger body of work with reverence to the artist's creative journey. This is a second chance. Primarily an oil painter, Monique initially turned to collage to ready herself for a return to canvas after a prolonged art hiatus.
Brideau believes that collage differs from painting in how the image magnetically builds and comes together like a puzzle. Collage is now an outlet she uses when it’s time to slow down on her paintings. Paintings need time to sit on the wall, to breathe, before deciding where they’ll go next. The collages are the trusty builders, bricklayers of art. The paintings are the whimsical musicians and dancers of art. Brideau likes the way collage and painting feed off of one another in the studio.
Monique Brideau is a member of the Peekskill Artist Certification Committee. She is also the Artist Representative on the Peekskill Business Improvement District Board of Directors. Monique received a Post Baccalaureate in Art at Brandeis University (‘07) and an MFA in Painting at Boston University (‘09).
In August, Monique will have a show of her paintings at John C. Hart Memorial Library in Shrub Oak, NY. She recently had solo shows at The Field Gallery, The Peekskill Coffee House and The Hendrick Hudson Free Library.
