Utah Devils Warm-Up Message â June 5, 2025 â Utah Summer Games, Game One
Devilsâlock in right now.
As you stretch and prepare, start generating the mental power that will sustain your focus and fire all game long. Today, you take the field as champions in the making. That doesnât start with the first pitchâit starts now, with your mindset.
Youâve trained your body. Youâve trained your mind. Youâve built a clear, vivid image of who you are at your best. Now your job is to trust that work. Stay loose. Stick to your plan. Execute with belief.
Any thought of doubt, fear, or not belonging? Quash it. Those thoughts are enemiesâdesigned to drag you into mediocrity. We donât let them live here.
Instead, dwell on your moments of powerâthose big plays, those line drives, those dominant innings. Let those define you. Burn them into your mind and erase everything that doesnât match your vision of success.
If you start to feel tight or frustrated, hit reset. Breathe. Smile. Say to yourself, âLetâs go. Iâve got this. Iâm built for this moment.â You are.
When you dig into the box for your first at-bat, you better believe that you belong there. Say it out loud if you have to:
âI am a hunter. I recognize strikes and I crush them.â
Own that identity. Every pitch. Every time.
In the field, same deal. Be ready. Between every pitch, tell yourself:
âI make plays.â
Visualize it. Expect it. Then do it.
And if things donât go exactly the way you pictured? You reset. You adapt. You respond like a pro. If you swing and miss, have a little convo with that pitcher in your headââThrow that again. Watch what happens.â If you strike out, you donât sulk. Not for one second. Thatâs not who we are. You turn to your teammate, give them belief, and pass on what you saw.
Because pity is poison. We donât tolerate itânot from ourselves, not from anyone. It tears teams down. And weâre here to rise.
We play with heart, hustle, and grit.
We play to our standardânot the opponentâs.
We play for each otherâand we bring the fire.
So right now, as you warm up, commit to that vision of your best self. Sharpen it. Speak it. Step into it. And when that first pitch is thrown, let them see what it means to be a Devil.
Play Hot. Stay Loose. Be Relentless. One Team. On Fire. Weâre Devils.
Coachâs message June 4, 2025
đ„ DEVILSđ„
Tomorrow we take the field, and weâll be readyânot because of luck, but because we prepared. Champions donât wait for game day to get readyâthey train their mind and body ahead of time.
đ§ Your brain doesnât know the difference between a real rep and a vividly imagined one. Thatâs your edge. Visualize yourself crushing pitches, making elite plays, and leading with confidence.
đœ Visualize success TODAY!
đ€ Get 8+ hours of sleep TONIGHT!
⥠Bring energy TOMORROW!
Rest is part of the plan. A rested Devil is a dangerous Devil. Show up sharp. Be vocal. Be the spark.
You donât just wear the Devils nameâyou live it.
đ„ Play Hot. Stay Humble. Be Devils.
One Team. On Fire. Weâre Devils.đ„
Visualize your success to make it a reality - Warm-Up Message - June 3, 2025
Weâre not just going through the motions. Weâre here to build championsâon and off the field. Our standard is excellence. Our mission is bigger than softball. We play with heart, hustle, and grit. We lead with integrity. We grow through adversity. Softball is our passionâbut character is our legacy.
In just two days, we take the field for our first tournament of the season. Preparation doesnât begin with warm-up tosses. It starts nowâwith how you think. With how you see yourself.
Your nervous system doesnât know the difference between a real experience and one you vividly imagine. That means when you vividly imagine yourself hitting a line drive, your brain responds as if youâre actually doing it. And the more you mentally rehearse that moment, the more natural it becomesâbecause your subconscious begins to accept that youâre the kind of player who crushes that pitch when it comes. Anything you consistently replay in your mind becomes the reality your body moves toward.
Thatâs powerfulâbut it cuts both ways. If you constantly replay mistakes in your mind, if you picture yourself as average, inconsistent, or unsure, your brain will accept that as the truthâand your body will follow. You will unconsciously train yourself to underperform.
But youâre in controlâso choose to feed your brain vivid images of success. Picture yourself crushing line drives, making smooth, confident plays, and performing like the elite athlete youâre becoming. Your brain will believe that too. Right now, at the start of the season, you have the chance to mentally step into the version of you who is already succeeding. The more clearly and consistently you rehearse that success, the more naturally it becomes who you are.
Donât wait to feel confidentâcreate confidence. That winning feeling? It starts in your mind.
No one can create this belief for you. Thatâs your job. Own your mindset. Own your performance. Youâre not waiting to feel readyâyouâre preparing to dominate.
Mental Reps: Your Visualization Game Plan
Start imagining success like this several times a day between now and the tournament:
- Mentally step into the box. Feel the dirt under your cleats.
- Visualize your breathing calm and focused.
- Visualize the pitcher in their windup and the pitch hurtling toward you.
- Feel yourself perfectly time the pitch and engage your muscles in the correct sequence.
- Hear the crack of the bat as you crush your pitch.
- Watch the ball scream off your bat for a double, a home run.
- See yourself reacting quickly on defenseâfielding cleanly, throwing with confidence and precision.
When each of you does this workâprepares like this, visualizes like thisâyou raise the standard for the whole team. We donât just show up. We show up as Devilsâon fire and fully prepared.
So when your cleats hit the dirt on Thursday morning and that first pitch is thrown, youâll knowâyouâve already been here. Youâve seen that moment. And youâre ready to own it.
Visualize excellence. Believe in yourself. And when itâs game timeâPlay Hot. Stay Humble. Be relentless. Be united. One Team. On Fire. Weâre the Devils.
Visualize Greatness, Build a vivid mental image of your success
Warm-Up Message â Utah Devils Softball â May 31, 2025
Weâre not just going through the motions out here. We are here to build championsâon and off the field. Our standard is excellence, and our mission is bigger than softball. We play with heart, hustle, and grit. We lead with integrity. We grow through adversity. This game is our passionâbut our character is our legacy.
Okay Devilsâwhile you warm up, Every throw, every rep, every breath right now is shaping who you are when the game begins. I want you locked in. This message is truly important to your success, not only in softball but to your happiness and life.
You donât act and feel according to how things really areâyou act and feel according to the image your mind holds of how things are. Think about that for a second: your performance follows your perception. If you see yourself succeeding, you will move toward that outcome. If you doubt, you will stall, hesitate and fail.
So ask yourself: what image are you building? Are you feeding doubt or fueling belief? That simple choiceâcompletely within your controlâwill change your life for better or worse. So why not choose to build an image of yourself succeeding? Donât let anyone tear that image downâand because itâs yours, donât let yourself tear it down either. Instead, choose to make it stronger, clearer, and more vivid every day. Build a mental picture of excellenceâand then step into it.
Winning isnât about luck. Itâs about preparationâand belief. That winning feeling doesnât just happen out of luck. It shows up because you chose to foster belief in your success. You own it before the game even starts. You have the power to create that feelingâby repeatedly envisioning success instead of worrying about failure. When you step up to the plate, youâre not hopingâyouâre hunting. Hunting for your pitch. Crushing it. When youâre fielding a ground ball or making a throw, youâre not wondering if youâll get it doneâyou know you will. Youâve trained for this. Free your subconscious. Let your body do what itâs been trained to do. Move with confidence. React with instinct. The winning feeling is yours to createâand yours to control.
Remember:
Winning feeling is not luckâitâs preparation.
Train your mind to feel like a winner before you compete. If youâve already seen yourself succeeding in your head, your body will follow.
Compete from belief, not fear. Doubt interferes. Confidence unlocks.
Donât play to avoid failure. When youâre thinking about mistakes or fearing failure, you block your performance. Play to achieve excellence. Belief fuels action. Fear stalls it.
Letâs live our mission todayâheart, hustle, gritâand make sure our character is what this game remembers. Visualize greatness. Choose belief. Hunt your pitch. Own the moment.
Play Hot. Stay Humble. Be Devils. One Team. On Fire. Weâre Devils.

Warm-Up Message â Utah Devils Softball - May 29, 2025
Live the way of champions - Raise your standard!
Okay Devilsâlet's lock in. Let's set the tone together right now for this practice.
While we warm up, I want you to think about what it means to play to a standard. Not just today. Not just on game day. But every day.
We donât wait for greatness to happenâwe build it. Our mission is clear: Weâre here to become champions on and off the field. Athletes with heart, hustle, and grit. We play for each other. We lead with integrity. We grow through adversity. This game is our passionâbut our character is our legacy.
Remember: Well done is better than well said. Excellence doesnât come from big speeches or highlight plays. It comes from the little thingsâdone well, done often, and done with purpose.
Thatâs what The Mundanity of Excellence teaches us. Champions arenât made through one magical moment. Theyâre made through thousands of ordinary actionsâdone with extraordinary consistency.
So we donât go through the motions. We raise the bar. We bring maximum effort to everything: our warm-up, our throws, our footwork, our mindset. Thatâs what playing to a standard means. It means we live the way of the championâhungry and humble, every single day.
You all have the power to raise that standardâright now. To quash mediocrity. To insist on excellence. To hold each other to it. To hold yourself to it.
You have the power to raise the standardâright now, today in this practice, and no one else can do it for you. Donât look around waiting for someone else to push you or hold you accountable. You are the one who decides if weâre truly living the way of champions. That standard doesnât rise by accident. It rises when each of you commits to doing the work, to demanding more of yourself, and to showing others what it looks like to chase excellenceârep after rep, moment after moment. Youâre not just part of this cultureâyouâre building it.
Letâs do this together.
Play Hot. Stay Humble. Be Devils. One Team. On Fire. Weâre Devils.

Warm-up Message:
Devils, take a breath, find stillness, and lock inâbecause this matters.
Today, weâre talking about focus. Not just any kind of focus, but the kind that shapes who you areâas an athlete and a teammate. The kind that directs your mindâs most powerful tool: your creative mechanism.
From Dr. Maxwell Maltzâs Psycho-Cybernetics, we learn this: Your brain is a goal-striving machine. It will chase whatever picture you give itâgood or bad. If your focus is on fear, failure, or pressure? Thatâs exactly where your mind will take you. But when you focus on the process, on purpose, on being presentâyour brain starts firing in ways that unlock your best.
Your brain is always listening. The images and words you feed it shape what happens next. If you zero in on your misses, your strikeouts, your errorsâguess what? That becomes your reality. You tighten up. You try to force it. You feed your failure mechanism.
But if you stay loose, calm, and locked in on the process, you give your creative mechanism room to work. Your instincts sharpen. Your body flows. You make plays. You grow.
Now connect that with what John OâSullivan teaches in Every Moment Matters:
You donât show up to win. You show up to compete.
If you're thinking about stats, offers, or winsâyouâre focused on outcomes. Youâre chasing things outside your control. That kind of focus feeds the failure mechanism. It makes you tight, tentative, and distracted.
But when you show up to competeâwith grit, with fire, with purposeâyou feed your success mechanism. You lock in on the controllables: effort, ex*****on, energy. And thatâs when you play free, confident, and fast.
So today, weâre not here to impress. Weâre not here to be perfect.
Weâre here to program our success mechanismâour subconsciousâto work for us.
If you boot a grounder or throw one off-lineâfine. That happens when you're working to improve.
Learn. Reset. Move on. Stay in the fight.
Frustration is the enemy of growth. Confidence is built through struggle.
Champions are made in how they respondânot just how they perform.
So today, Devils:
Chase reps. Chase the dirt. Chase the little moments that make you better.
Play Hot. Stay Humble. Be Devils.

Practice Warm-Up Message Saturday 24th: "Your Mind Is Your Most Powerful Teammate"
"Devilsâevery time you step onto this field, you're not just training your body. You're training your mind. And if your mind isnât right, your body doesnât stand a chance.
There's a principle from Psycho-Cybernetics I want you to understand. It says this: Your brain is like a guided missile. It follows the target you give it. If you picture mistakes, fear, or failureâthatâs what your mind locks on to. But if you picture ex*****on, power, poise, and confidence, your mind will go to work making that your reality.
Thatâs why we say:
Play Hot. Stay Humble. Be Devils.
We see ourselves playing hot. We believe in each other. And we never get too high or too lowâwe just compete.
So today, as we get back into rhythm, I want you to focus your mind like a laser. Visualize successâbefore every rep, every swing, every throw. Talk to yourself like a champion. Because champions donât just work hardâthey program their minds to win.
Letâs set the tone for this seasonâOne Team. On Fire. Weâre Devils.â
