Please come and join our Online Bible Study group on Zoom! This Bible Study group will be focusing on the Old Testament and is led by Pastor Mesake.
This week, we will be continuing to discuss Numbers.
Summary: In Numbers 25, the Israelites fall into spiritual and moral corruption while camped at Sh*ttim, engaging with Moabite and Midianite women and participating in the worship of Baal of Peor. The chapter shows how easily Godโs people can drift away when temptation, compromise, and idolatry enter the community. Godโs anger burns against Israel because their covenant relationship is being broken, and a deadly plague spreads through the camp. Amid the crisis, Phinehas, the grandson of Aaron, acts decisively to stop the rebellion, and the plague is halted. Theologically, the chapter highlights the seriousness of covenant faithfulness, the destructive power of idolatry, and the call to holiness among Godโs people. It also connects to the New Testament warning in First Epistle to the Corinthians 10:8, where Paul uses this event to warn believers against sexual immorality and spiritual compromise. Numbers 25 ultimately reminds believers that loyalty to God must remain stronger than the pressures and temptations of surrounding cultures.

In this passage, Paul points to Abraham as the great example of faith. God promised Abraham that he would become the father of many nations, even though he and Sarah were old and unable to have children. Humanly speaking, the situation seemed impossible, yet Abraham chose to trust God anyway. Paul teaches that righteousness comes not through the law or human effort but through faith in Godโs promises.
This text reminds believers that faith means trusting God when life feels uncertain, delayed, or impossible. Abraham did not focus on his weakness; instead, he focused on Godโs faithfulness. In the same way, Christians today are called to believe that God is still able to bring life, hope, healing, and restoration to difficult situations. The passage concludes by linking Abrahamโs faith to the resurrection of Jesus Christ, reminding the church that the God who raised Jesus from the dead is still working powerfully among His people.

Gospel: Matthew 9:9-13, 18-26 "Follow Me"
Think About It: Today's Gospel lection begins with another story of call and response. Father Abraham is not the subject of this account, but his children are. Matthew's Gospel is written specifically to the Jews in order to proclaim the resurrected Jesus as the fulfillment of messianic hope. The story begins with the words of Jesus, "Follow me." Without hesitation, Matthew followedโฆ

This week, we will be continuing to discuss Exodus.
The story of the Exodus is the great journey of Godโs people from slavery to freedom. For more than four hundred years, the Israelites lived under the heavy hand of the Egyptians. God heard their cries and raised up Mosesโa shepherd, reluctant leader, and faithful servantโto confront Pharaoh and lead the people out. Through mighty signs and wonders, God displayed His power, parted the Red Sea, and brought Israel safely across on dry ground. The Exodus was not just a rescueโit was the beginning of a covenant relationship between God and His people.
Yet the journey was not easy. In the wilderness, the Israelites faced hunger, thirst, fear, enemies, and long seasons of uncertainty. Their faith rose and fell. They complained, doubted God, rebuilt idols, and rebelled against Mosesโ leadership. Moses himself experienced deep frustration, loneliness, and heartbreak as he carried the weight of leading a stubborn people. But through every challenge, God remained patient, merciful, and faithfulโproviding manna from heaven, water from the rock, guidance by cloud and fire, and covenant laws to shape them into a holy nation.
The Exodus teaches us powerful truths for our own journey:
1. God hears us in our suffering.
Before Moses ever spoke to Pharaoh, God said, โI have heard their cry.โ God still hears us today.
2. God guides step by step.
The cloud by day and fire by night remind us that God leads us even when we cannot see the full path.
3. Freedom is a process, not just a moment.
Leaving Egypt was quick; getting Egypt out of their hearts took a lifetime. Spiritual transformation takes time.
4. Disobedience delays destiny.
Complaining, fear, and rebellion kept Israel wandering for 40 years. Our attitudes and choices still shape our journey.
5. God is faithful even when we stumble.
Despite Israelโs failures, God never abandoned them. His mercy carried them all the way to the Promised Land.
6. God raises leaders to guide His people.
Moses wasnโt perfect, but he was faithful. His perseverance teaches us that leadership requires humility, sacrifice, and trust.
7. The wilderness is where God shapes us.
Israel met God in the wilderness, learned dependence, and discovered Godโs character. Our trials can become holy ground.
In the end, the Exodus is more than a historical eventโit is our story, too. Each of us knows what it is like to walk through deserts, face giants, struggle with obedience, and wait on Godโs timing. And just like Israel, we find that Godโs presence never leaves us, His grace sustains us, and His promises always lead us forward.

Paul closes his letter with a series of pastoral exhortations: rejoice, strive for restoration, encourage one another, live in peace. These are not optionalโthey are marks of a healthy Christian community. Then comes one of the most beautiful Trinitarian blessings in Scripture:
โข The grace of Jesus Christ
โข The love of God
โข The fellowship of the Holy Spirit
This blessing shows that Christian life is rooted in the relationship of the Trinity, and that same unity is meant to be reflected in the church. The church is strongest when it reflects the harmony of the Trinity in daily relationships.

It will consist of root beer floats and weโll also use this time as outreach. Weโll be offering to share our root beer floats with any community member that stops by between the end of the church service and noon. Please invite your friends and neighbors to stop by!
We would like to ask that leading up to this event that our whole church family contribute and share in the providing the supplies we need. We will need cups, straws, vanilla ice cream, and root beer. Please bring any donated supplies to the office during the week, or drop them off on Sunday around the church service.
Even if you cannot contribute supplies, we would appreciate your time and being willing to say hi and pass out the root beer floats to community members passing by.

Gospel: Matthew 28:16-20 "My Lord Spoke"
Think About It: Some of the disciples doubted. Is doubt really about risk-taking? What if I doubt God even exists? Is that a matter of ideas, or of a willingness to "act as if God were real? Can doubt be seen as "searching faith"? What is at stake in matters of doubt and faith?
We welcome new members! Study notes will be sent to members of class, or others who request the same. Please contact Lay Leader Al Parham if you have any questions.

Any amount you can give, even as much as one dollar, makes a difference and allows us to continue our projects and worship. And if youโd like to donate to some other organization, cause, or person, include a note with your offering and we will pass on 100% of it.
You can also participate in the traditional way by mailing your gifts to the church at Patterson Federated Church, PO Box 1418, Patterson, CA 95363. If youโd like to mail a donation to any other organization or cause, please list it in the memo or note section of your check (ex. โfor Tongaโ).

We have an Online Bible Study group that meets on Zoom! Our Bible Study meetings are on Thursdays and focus more on the Old Testament. It is led by Pastor Mesake.
This week, we will be discussing Numbers.
Summary: In Numbers 20, the Israelites continue their wilderness journey and face several major moments of struggle and transition. Miriam dies at Kadesh, and soon after, the people complain again about the lack of water. God instructs Moses to speak to the rock, but in frustration, Moses strikes it twice instead. Water still flows for the people, but because Moses and Aaron failed to fully honor God before the Israelites, God tells them they will not enter the Promised Land. The chapter also records Edom's refusal of Israel's request to pass through their land, forcing the Israelites to take a longer route. Finally, Aaron dies on Mount Hor, and his priestly garments are passed on to his son Eleazar, marking the end of Aaronโs leadership and a season of transition for Israel.

The Book Club meets on Fridays at 4 PM and will meet on Zoom. We will continue to read Separation of Church and Hate: A Sane Person's Guide to Taking Back the Bible from Fundamentalists, Fascists, and Flock-Fleecing Frauds by John Fugelsang. โTold with Fugelsangโs trademark blend of radical honesty, comedy, and deep political and religious knowledge, Separation of Church and Hate is the book every American needs today. Itโs a rallying cry for compassion and clarity for anyone of any faith whoโs sick of religion being used as a cloaking device for hate.โ Please come and join us.
When it is time for the book club, please come to the Fellowship Hall or use this link to join: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/85904335595
