TRI-CITIES MEMBERS PICKET TRAINING TONIGHT

Thank you to everyone who attended last night's Picket Training. We had an incredible turnout with more than 80 members in attendance, demonstrating the strength, commitment, and solidarity of SMART Local 55.

For those who were unable to attend, we will be holding another Picket Training tonight at 5:30 PM at the Pasco Hall. The training will last approximately 30 minutes and will cover picket line procedures, member responsibilities, communication, and strike protocols.

Preparation matters. A strong, disciplined, and informed membership is our greatest asset. Whether you've walked a picket line before or this would be your first time, we encourage everyone to attend.

On Saturday, SMART Local 55 members in the Tri-Cities voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike, with 96% voting YES and 4% voting NO.

This vote was about sending a clear message that Tri-Cities Sheet Metal Workers deserve a contract that reflects today's market realities.

Throughout negotiations, Labor has raised concerns about manpower shortages, increasing competition from neighboring trades, Oregon work that costs our members money to take, and the growing wage gap that continues to pull skilled workers away from our industry. We have emphasized that hiring halls across the Tri-Cities area are empty while future work demand continues to grow.

The membership understands what is at stake.

This vote gives our negotiating committee the backing it needs to continue fighting for a fair agreement, protect our work, strengthen travel language, and address the financial impact Oregon work has on Local 55 members.

Middleton School District is proud to celebrate Middleton High School CTE students Liam Vecchio and Dante Sanguinetti on becoming the newest STRAP Program Apprentices! 👏🔧

Through this incredible opportunity with the Sheet Metal Workers SMART Local 55, these students will earn $28/hour, begin building a 401(k), receive hands-on training, and work toward full-time employment after completing their apprenticeship. They’ll also receive approximately $1,000 worth of tools to support their future careers.

We are excited to see Liam and Dante begin this journey and represent the strength of career and technical education in Middleton Schools. Best of luck this summer and beyond! 💙💛
