The 2016 trend on social media has me in a chokehold! That year we celebrated our first year in business and were still unsure about Neon’s longevity, but man those were simpler times. 🥹

Our first post of 2026 simply had to be a Stranger Things appreciation post. The show premiered in 2016, not long after we opened Neon Retro Arcade. At the time, 80s culture was definitely making its comeback in pop culture but Stranger Things completely changed the game.

One of our main goals in opening the arcade was to help preserve retro games by making them accessible to new generations. Stranger Things absolutely helped us achieve this. The interest the show created in the era we grew up in was significant and truly helped our small business thrive. But even beyond that, we’ll always be grateful for the memories the show helped us create and revisit. From turning our beloved shih tzu Jordy into the cutest Demodog there ever was to inspiring us to drive 1600 miles to acquire Dragon’s Lair for our collection (that same cabinet was then featured at a Netflix promo concert where The Go-Go’s, Soft Cell & Corey Hart performed!) Some members of the Stranger Things writing staff even visited at least once and took lots of notes while playing. 📝👀

Thank you to all who contributed to the creation of this very special show for beautifully capturing the heart of our childhood and for making loveable, game-playing nerds the heroes. You will forever have a special place in our hearts. 👾🖤
