I’ve been sitting on these photographs for months, and I don’t know why, since I love them. This was a personal photo project for , a class I was taking with the inimitable .

We’d decided together that I would do a shoot to explore young love. And just when I was wondering how on earth I’d find who I was looking for, a combination of instagram and the mom network ( ) brought me and Oliver. They showed up with their open hearts and a pink fuzzy backpack. We told each other stories while they took me to their favorite haunts - abandoned overpasses and empty lots in the midst of developments that had the most perfect sunset views.

Yan talks in her class about the venn diagram of where your own story and the people who you are photographing’s story overlaps. It felt like that’s very much where this shoot lived.

I’m so overdue in sharing on here. Sometimes I almost love a session too much to have any idea of how to write about it. I’m a glutton for the chaos and the love and the playing in the dirt and the silly interactions between family members. Throw in a meltdown or two and I’m more than fine with it 😍

Next stop was Cusco, Peru.

Ancient and modern and wildly colorful, said to look like a Puma from above. The whole city is a World Heritage site. Once the capital of the Incan empire, sitting at over 11,000 feet elevation. We flew in from Lima, as our entry point to the Andes. Llamas and alpacas share the street with women in traditional dress and giant groups of school kids with selfie sticks. We saw ruins with giant boulder walls, fit together so perfectly that they need no mortar and have survived hundreds of years of seismic events.

You feel the wild collision of time periods everywhere, with colonial churches butting up against, and sometimes built right on top of, Incan temples. Peru grows incredible coffee and cacao, but at the cafes you’re as likely to see matcha and avocado toast on the menu.

Again, with the best company. Our time in Cusco was quick but magical.

Where to even begin? Back from Peru and finally getting a moment to go through the photos.

It had been a very long time since I had traveled like this - internationally, with friends, without family. Roaming streets without an agenda. On an adventure.

From a day in Lima with the best travel companions - architecture, the cutest coffee, majestic olive trees, an explosion of bougainvillea at the Museo Larco, A magical meal at , and an accidental double exposure that I kind of like anyway as I learned my new

This family session 💓

I get that it might feel daunting to bring a photographer into your home, but this is why you should do it. Your kid is at home and comfortable. We can make magic out of the smallest moments. It’s a joy.

Life has been full lately. Parenting, work, travel - all good things that all take lots of time. Grateful to this woman for making sure I still move my body.

Movement ✨Play is a master at reminding adults of how central to life it all is. Fun to break out of the gym for this one and take it to the park.
