Every pole vaulter knows that clearing the bar isn’t just about jumping higher, it’s about having the courage to sprint toward uncertainty, the strength to launch skyward, and the discipline to show up day after day when nobody is watching.
At North County Pole Vault Club in Escondido, California, these athletes are constantly pushing beyond their limits, trusting their training, and daring to do what most people would never attempt.
The bar gets higher. The challenge gets bigger. And these athletes keep rising to meet it.
Gravity may be a law of nature, but for pole vaulters, it’s just another obstacle to overcome.
Life is busy. Between school, homework, therapies, work schedules, family commitments, and everything else that fills a family’s calendar, simply making it to rehearsal each week is a victory in itself.
But somehow, the dancers of Ariel’s Dance Studio in Oceanside kept showing up.
They practiced. They encouraged one another. They laughed through the mistakes, celebrated the little wins, and found the confidence to keep trying. For many of these children and especially for Ariel’s amazing special needs dancers, this weekend is about so much more than performing a routine. It’s about courage. It’s about friendship. It’s about discovering that they belong under the spotlight just as much as anyone else.
This Saturday at the sold-out show at the Sunshine Brooks Theater, proud parents and loved ones will see more than choreography. They’ll see children who have worked hard, pushed through challenges, and found joy in expressing themselves exactly as they are. They’ll see the excitement in their eyes when the curtain rises and the stage lights illuminate a place where every dancer gets to shine.
No matter how many turns are landed or steps are missed, they’ve already done something remarkable.
To the dancers of Ariel’s Dance Studio, thank you for reminding us that the most beautiful performances come from the heart. Have the best time out there, soak in every second, and know that your community is cheering you on.
Good luck this weekend. You’ve already made us proud.
For a few breathtaking seconds, gravity becomes just another obstacle to overcome.
Join the North County Pole Vault Club on June 27 at Calvin Christian School in Escondido as these dedicated young athletes charge down the runway and launch themselves high into the Southern California sky.
Their courage, discipline, and relentless pursuit of personal bests will be on full display. Come support these rising stars as they dare to fly.
Ariel’s Dance Class students all hammed up for their portraits at Bookabl Studio! So kawaii!

Studly Photographer: “Okay Sasha, give me your meanest, most intimidating face.”
Me: 😁
Studly Photographer: “...let’s try that again.”
Me: 😁 but with more effort
I swear I was TRYING to look scary. Apparently my “mean face” reads as “golden retriever who just heard the word walk.” Ten attempts deep and the man was begging. I SAID MEAN FACE, SASHA.
In my defense, it’s really hard to look intimidating when you’re doing what you love. The kettlebell was scared of me though. Probably.

In Memoriam | Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II (2013–2026)
It is with a heavy heart and an even heavier repair estimate that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Nifty Fifty. Gone on June 5, 2026, in Julian, California. Cause of death: natural causes and 13 years of unconditional service.
This humble lens asked for nothing. It cost less than a tank of gas. It photographed the halls of the United States Senate. It never once complained, unlike its owner, who has been sobbing into his camera bag since Thursday.
Swipe to view the official San Diego County Coroner evidence photographs. The Medical Examiner has confirmed the remains will be donated to science.
A memorial reel will be posted at a later date. We kindly ask that you please respect the privacy of the family during this difficult time.
The successor, the Canon RF 50mm f/1.2 L, has been named. Arrival is pending the successful private sale of one functioning kidney. Inquiries to be directed to the owner’s empty wallet.
It was plastic. It was cheap. It was perfect.
