Along with the cold weather comes snow and with snow potential for ice damming. Ice damming is caused by heavy snow buildup melts during the day and then refreezes when temperatures drop overnight. To prevent ice damming, twice yearly gutter cleaning/inspection and a yearly roof inspection are your best defense.
Regular roof inspections are the first step in maintaining your roof and can help detect issues before they become a problem, preventing damage to your home.
A yearly roof inspection includes an exterior inspection which checks for leaks and proper flashing, as well as the condition of your shingles and chimney.
An interior roof inspection includes checking the attic for proper insulation, ventilation, as well as moisture and mold.

WHAT IS WATER INTRUSION?
Water intrusion is the unwanted entry of water or moisture into a building, such as a home or commercial space. It can cause a range of damage, from minor water stains to structural issues
Common areas where we see water intrusion
-Roofing (Damaged shingles or flashing)
-Plumbing (Even a small leak in a plumbing line can introduce moisture)
-Windows and doors (Weather stripping and caulking can break down over time)
-Appliances (Dishwashers, refrigerators, and washing machines can leak, especially if they have old or damaged parts)
-Basements (Basements are prone to leakage, which can damage interior finishes, furniture, and stored items)
Water intrusion signs to look for
Water pooling on the floor
Leaking from a pipe
Dripping from the ceiling,
Yellow, brown, or dark stains on walls or ceilings
Peeling or bubbling paint or wallpaper
The smell of mold, musty, or dampness

Basements leak water in through the joint where the floor and wall meet and through mortar joints, mostly after rain or snow starts melting are the most common areas basements leak. However water can come up through cracks in the floor as well. Surface water works its way to the foundation. As footer drains start to clog or drain slower over the years water builds up around the foundation and creates hydrostatic pressure around the walls and under the floor. Water is forced through the joint where the floor and wall meet and through the foundation wall its self. Clay absorbs the water under pressure and swells causing walls to crack and bow, also the
same cracking happens under the basement floor.
What is an interior French drain?
Interior French drains are placed along the inside edges of your basement. They collect the water that enters your home where the walls and basement floor meet, redirecting it to a sump pump. Interior French drains is typically installed inside the basement or crawl space, along the perimeter of the foundation. It's designed to intercept and redirect water that enters your home, effectively managing basement flooding and preventing moisture-related problems.
