Have you been exfoliating?
04/04/2024
Ok, you maybe asking yourself “Why do I care? It’s just a wax!” But please read
1. Anagen — The Anagen phase is considered the “growth period” The hair bulb is anchored into the dermal papilla which provides it with nourishing blood flow signaling the hair to grow. **This is the phase you want to get waxed in. Pulling the hair and snapping it away from the blood flow causes damage and overtime the hair gets weak and can stop growing back. If you’ve ever had pin point bleeding after a wax, this is the supply being snapped.**
2. Catagen — The Catagen phase is a short “transitional period” the hair stops growing and the hair bulb detaches from the nourishing blood supply. **You can still get waxed in this phase and achieve results, but it can take longer and may potentially hurt more.**
3. Telogen — The Telogen phase is the “resting period” the detached hair strand rests in the follicle. Hair is no longer growing but it hasn’t shed yet. The follicle remains dormant while new hair growth begins to form underneath it. **Getting waxed in this phase HURTS. Hairs are dry and dead. Results will not last as long because of the new hair starting to grow. This is prime time for ingrown hairs. If you’re not exfoliating and moisturizing the hairs cannot grow out.
4. Exogen — The Exogen phase is the “shedding phase” the hair finally exits or “sheds” as it begins a new anagen phase for new hair growth. **This phase is too short for the wax to remove and will feel like stubble, it’s not. We leave these alone for them to grow out and be removed in the correct stage to hopefully destroy them.**
Each follicle is either growing, transitioning, resting, or shedding at any given time. When the hair growth phases are disrupted - the anagen “growth” phase can shorten and telogen “resting” phase can lengthen. This is why staying consistent with your wax is key. I know you think waiting in between visits is saving you money, but its not. It’s disrupting phases and causing you more pain. If you get waxed every 4 weeks your hair will thin out and slow down letting you go longer in between visits. It will take months for you to see results. BUT, it will definitely happen.
