Kentucky Junior Firefighter Program
The Kentucky Fire Commission is proud to offer a Junior Firefighter Program for members of recognized fire departments ages 15-17.
Bringing in new enthusiasm with youths, and rekindling it with veterans, will better-serve citizens in those communities and may contribute to the overall future of these departments. Recruiting the younger generation from our many communities and utilizing their time and effort, in return for training and structure, is one of the many great traditions that help make the fire service what it is today.

We had an incredible weekend hosting 38 juniors from 14 departments at State Fire School. These young men and women got hands‑on experience with many of the core components of the fire service, and it was inspiring to watch their confidence grow with every evolution.
Seeing them develop as firefighters and as individuals over the course of the class was truly rewarding. The future of our fire service is in good hands!
Special thanks to all of our instructors who helped throughout the weekend, and to the Kentucky Firefighters Association and LaGrange Fire & Rescue for their assistance in providing lunches for the juniors!

Attention All Junior Firefighters!
We are again pleased to present a class at State Fire School tailored specifically to junior firefighters! We hope you can join us for a weekend of education and networking with fellow junior firefighters from across the state. Build your skills with plenty of hands-on training, including Junior Firefighter Program Guideline-approved Live Fire opportunity! This course is designed to teach the students team building, communication and leadership while honing the skills necessary to operate in today's fire service. Participants will be physically challenged at times and should be prepared to perform hands-on skills in full PPE. This class is open to junior firefighters ages 15-17 who are part of a departmental junior program recognized by the Kentucky Fire Commission.
Lead Instructor Scott Landram is an adjunct instructor with SFRT District 5 and also serves as Deputy Chief with Nelson County Fire. He tailors his training to benefit the juniors with a mix of fun and hands-on learning to promote and enjoy classes, and likes to help them become the best they can be in the fire service.
