Many thanks to Kol Emeth member Len Lehmann, Owner and Winemaker of Portola Vineyards, for leading a wine tasting at KE last week! This was the perfect pairing for a talk by Simon Wynberg, Artistic Director of the ARC Ensemble, about the composers featured in ARC’s “Music In Exile” concert which they performed on Saturday night. The ARC Ensemble was brought to KE by Holocaust Music Lost & Found.

Last weekend, Congregation Kol Emeth was honored to host Canada's ARC Ensemble (Artists of The Royal Conservatory) in partnership with Holocaust Music Lost & Found. Led by Artistic Director Simon Wynberg, the ARC Ensemble focuses on the research and recovery of works that were suppressed and marginalized under the 20th century's repressive regimes. Their performances at Kol Emeth featured music by four Jewish composers who survived the ravages of National Socialism: Ernest Kanitz, Frederick Block, Walter Kaufmann, Szymon Laks. The world was at war and antisemitism was raging, but these talented and resilient artists found strength in their craft and refused to let extreme hatred take away their creative souls.
