Our Business Education Moment
Our business education moment was presented by Christine Jacobs of Jacobs Tax Pros Inc.
Christine spoke about the hidden assets that already exist within our businesses.
Many business owners are constantly searching for the next new customer, service, or opportunity. However, Christine reminded us that we may already be sitting on valuable assets that we are not fully using.
Those assets might include our current customers, referral sources, industry knowledge, professional relationships, inventory, and the skills that come naturally to us.
One of Christine’s strongest points was to focus on doing more, not always doing something new. How can we provide more value to the customers we already serve? What additional problems can we solve for them? How can our existing knowledge and abilities create another source of revenue?
She also explained that inventory by itself is not necessarily the asset. The real value is in knowing how to source it, market it, manage it, and turn it into cash.
Most importantly, Christine challenged us to take action. Delays can be expensive. Opportunities do not continue to grow while we wait, and having resources does not automatically create success. Success comes from using those resources and taking action.
Key takeaways from Christine:
* Many businesses already have valuable assets they are not using
* Existing customers may provide opportunities for additional services
* Look for ways to bring more value to the people you already serve
* Use the skills and knowledge that already come naturally to you
* Focus on doing more, not always creating something new
* The value of inventory comes from knowing how to manage and sell it
* Delays can be expensive
* Opportunities do not grow while you wait
* Success is not simply found in resources
* Success comes from taking action
Christine challenged everyone to look closely at their own business assets and ask one important question:
How can I take better advantage of what I already have?

Our First Speaker
Our first featured speaker was Deborah Keane of Cruise Planners and Ineedtotravel.com.
Deborah is a licensed travel agent who loves serving people and helping them experience memorable adventures.
She began by sharing that her first love is her family. She told us about her husband of 43 years, their four children, two granddaughters, and another granddaughter on the way.
Her second love is travel.
Deborah does much more than simply book flights and hotels. She helps clients plan complete experiences and shared several examples of the different types of trips she can create.
One of the adventures she presented was a trip to Maine and Acadia National Park. It included hiking, private boating experiences, unique lodging, and other special activities. This was not a standard group tour. It was a private adventure designed to be fun, exclusive, and memorable.
She also introduced us to an American tour through G Adventures. This option offered a more traditional, budget-friendly adventure with 15 days of experiences and exploration.
Of course, living in Florida means cruises are always popular. Deborah shared that she especially enjoys working with cruise lines such as Silversea and Oceania Cruises.
She can also organize special-interest group travel for sporting events, celebrations, and other shared experiences. Whether someone wants a private adventure, an affordable guided tour, a luxury cruise, or a group trip, Deborah can help handle the planning.
Key takeaways from Deborah:
* A travel advisor can create complete experiences, not just book reservations
* Private trips can include unique lodging and exclusive activities
* Travel can be customized around a client’s interests and budget
* Guided adventures can provide an affordable way to explore
* Cruises offer options ranging from traditional to luxury travel
* Special-interest group trips can be planned around sports and events
* Professional planning can make travel easier and more enjoyable

Our Final Speaker
Our final speaker was Richard “Rick” Millian of Retamar & Millian, P.A.
Rick is our Personal Injury Attorney and explained what it means to operate a full-service personal injury practice.
Many personal injury attorneys focus almost entirely on automobile accident injury claims. Rick and his firm can assist with a much wider range of issues, including personal injury, property damage, diminished value claims, slip-and-fall cases, and other accident-related legal matters.
Rick attended law school in St. Petersburg and began his career working in corporate law. His brother later invited him to join the family firm, which led Rick into the world of personal injury law.
Today, Rick is deeply connected throughout Palm Harbor and East Lake. He has become a familiar and trusted part of the community, with strong relationships that help him connect people with the legal assistance they need.
Rick also explained that an accident claim may involve much more than physical injuries. He can help clients pursue the money they need for property damage and assist with diminished value claims when a vehicle is worth less after being involved in an accident.
One of the biggest advantages of calling Rick is his network. Even when a legal matter falls outside his specific area of practice, he can help connect the person with a qualified attorney who handles that type of issue.
Key takeaways from Rick:
* Personal injury law involves more than automobile accident injuries
* Property damage may require its own claim and strategy
* A diminished value claim can address the loss in a vehicle’s value
* Slip-and-fall cases and other injuries may also qualify for compensation
* Working with a full-service firm can simplify the legal process
* A well-connected attorney can help clients find the right legal resource
* Local relationships and community involvement matter
* It is helpful to speak with an attorney who understands the complete situation

Our Business Education Moment
Our business education speaker was Kevin Hunt of Fair Wind Inspections, Inc.
Kevin spoke about something every business owner needs to think about: phone etiquette.
It sounds simple, but how we handle the phone can make a huge difference in the way customers experience our businesses. Kevin reminded us that answering quickly matters. Even if you cannot talk right away, sometimes just picking up and saying, “Can I call you back?” can make all the difference.
He also talked about the importance of returning calls quickly. Same-day follow-up is critical, and within an hour is even better. People do not want to feel ignored, especially when they are trying to hire you, ask a question, or solve a problem.
Kevin also reminded us to be fully present on the phone. Do not take important calls while driving, distracted, or surrounded by background noise. Be engaged. Listen. Respond. Speak clearly. Slow down. Avoid industry jargon. And always be professional by introducing yourself and making the next steps clear.
One of the best reminders was to check your own voicemail. Call your business like a customer would. What do they hear? Is the message clear? Is the mailbox full? Is the experience professional? Sometimes the smallest details can shape a customer’s first impression.
⠀
Key takeaways from Kevin:
* Answer the phone as quickly as possible
* Return calls the same day whenever possible
* Within an hour is even better
* Be present and engaged during phone calls
* Avoid background noise and distractions
* Speak clearly and avoid industry jargon
* Introduce yourself professionally
* Give clear next steps
* Check your own voicemail experience
* Never let your voicemail box get full
* Be friendly, because friendliness matters

Our First Speaker
Our next speaker was Joshua with Catalyst Physical Therapy and Diagnostics.
Joshua led the group through a simple but very effective exercise using a deck of cards. Each team had to divide, sort, and arrange the cards. The tasks were similar, but each group had slight variations in their instructions.
The point became clear quickly. In business, many of us face similar challenges, but the details are not always the same. Each group had to communicate with each other, work through the information they had, and try to complete the task.
Some teams did not have the current or complete information, so they did not complete the task the same way. That opened up a great conversation about communication, feedback, and how it feels when we are expected to succeed without being given everything we need.
Every group asked for feedback, but it was not given right away. That made us think about how frustrating it can feel when customers, employees, or team members are left wondering if they are doing things correctly.
It was a simple exercise, but it made a strong point. Communication matters. Feedback matters. Clear instructions matter. And when people do not have the right information, even smart and capable people can end up moving in different directions.
⠀
Key takeaways from Joshua:
* Similar problems can still have different details
* Clear communication helps teams complete tasks correctly
* Missing information can change the outcome
* Feedback is important during the process, not just after
* People perform better when expectations are clear
* In business, confusion often comes from unclear communication

Our Final Speaker
Our final speaker was David McKay of Black Sheep Customs.
David started with a few jokes and had the whole room laughing before jumping into one of his favorite topics: cars.
What started as a presentation quickly turned into a great question-and-answer session. David talked about automotive restoration, finding parts, sourcing hard-to-find pieces, and what it really takes to bring older vehicles back to life.
One of the big questions was how you find parts for something like a 1937 car. David shared some of the behind-the-scenes realities of restoration work and how much creativity, patience, and persistence it takes.
He told a story about a 1976 Camaro and the process of finding a quarter panel, restoring the rusted-out bottom, dealing with timing issues, back orders, different options, and sometimes needing to fabricate parts when the right piece is not available.
One thing that stood out was David’s commitment to quality. He said he is always chasing quality, and that is one of the hardest parts of the job. He works with around 1,000 different companies to find the right parts, and even uses eBay as a source when needed. Sometimes, he even has to buy other cars just to get the parts required for a restoration.
David also made it clear that he does not work on new cars. In fact, he does not really like working on anything after 1978. It is not because he cannot handle technology. He adds computers to the rebuilds he does when needed. For David, it is about the soul of the car. Newer cars feel too routine to him. He loves the challenge, the craftsmanship, and the story behind older vehicles.
His favorite cars are old Chevy muscle cars, and you could tell from the way he talked about them that this is not just a business for him. It is a passion.
Key takeaways from David:
* Automotive restoration requires patience and creativity
* Finding parts can be one of the hardest parts of the job
* Quality is always worth chasing
* Some restorations require fabrication or sourcing from donor cars
* Older cars have character, history, and soul
* Passion matters when the work is detailed and difficult

Our Business Education Moment
Our business education moment came from Vito Sernas of Call Grandpa, LLC.
Vito spoke about customer satisfaction and reminded us that disappointment usually comes from one thing: expectations not matching reality. It was a simple point, but an important one for every business owner in the room.
He shared that one of the best ways to avoid unhappy customers is to set proper expectations from the very beginning. Do not overpromise just to make the sale. Be honest about timing, scope, and what the customer can expect. When something does go wrong, do not disappear. Own it, communicate, and work to make it right.
Vito also talked about the importance of communication in the moment. Being on time matters, but life happens. If you are running late, pull over and send the text. Make the call. Let people know what is going on. Communication can completely change how a customer experiences a problem.
Key takeaways from Vito:
- Customer disappointment often comes from unmet expectations
- Set realistic expectations from the start
- Do not overpromise just to win the job
- If something goes wrong, own it and fix it
- Communicate early and often

Our First Speaker
Next up was Amy Choudhury of Fitness 360.
Amy shared a very personal and inspiring story about how she found her way into personal training. After going through some difficult seasons in life, she realized how important helping people truly was to her. That calling first led her into healthcare, where she worked as a nurse in several different roles. Later, after moving to Florida, she shifted into retail and worked her way up there as well, but even in that environment, she still found herself drawn to helping others.
Amy then shared her own health journey. As a mom with a 4-year-old and a 5-year-old, she loved her family life, but she found herself struggling personally. She went from 105 pounds to 190 pounds and knew she needed a place where she could focus on her health while also having support for her children. She was looking for a gym with a kids club, a place where she could work out and still manage motherhood.
That search led her to Fitness 360, where she quickly fell in love with the people and the environment. While she was still a stay-at-home mom, the team there encouraged her to get involved. She started helping in different ways, working the front desk, helping in the kids club, cleaning, and becoming part of the team. Over time, that grew into personal training, and she realized it was the perfect fit. It brought together her love of helping people, her background in healthcare, her passion for fitness, and her love of connecting with others.
Amy’s story was a great reminder that sometimes the right path finds us when different parts of our life finally come together.
Key takeaways from Amy:
- Personal struggles can lead to a powerful purpose
- Helping people was the common thread through every stage of her career
- The right environment can open unexpected doors
- Fitness can be life-changing when it meets people where they are
- Passion grows when purpose, experience, and opportunity come together
Amy also invited anyone interested in a free personal training session, stretching session, or massage to reach out.

Our Final Speaker
Our final speaker was George Curbelo of Curbelo Financial Coach.
George brought a helpful perspective to financial coaching. He explained that financial coaching is not really about spreadsheets, budgets, and numbers alone. At its core, it is about habits, beliefs, relationships, and the emotions people carry around money.
He pointed out that the biggest challenges are often not mathematical. They are emotional. People feel like they are not where they should be. They make money but still never seem to have enough. Couples fight because they view money differently. Fear, stress, and conflicting habits can do more damage than a lack of income ever could.
George then walked through the framework he uses to help clients create transformation.
He starts with setting up a budget that fits real life. That includes understanding needs versus wants, creating per-paycheck spending plans, and developing a money mindset that is practical and sustainable.
From there, he helps clients save money by building the right habits, creating emergency funds, planning for larger expenses with sinking funds, and automating the parts of saving that tend to get ignored.
The next step is to pay off debt with a strategy. That includes improving credit, understanding good debt versus bad debt, planning for major purchases, and using payoff strategies like the snowball or avalanche method.
Finally, the goal is to build wealth through investing, retirement planning, passive income, real estate, and long-term legacy planning.
What stood out most was George’s point that the best transformations happen when people find peace with their finances.
Key takeaways from George:
- Financial coaching is about habits and beliefs, not just numbers
- Money stress often comes from fear and unhealthy patterns
- A budget should fit real life, not feel impossible
- Saving, debt payoff, and wealth building all require a clear plan
- The real goal is peace and confidence with money

⠀
Deborah kicked off our Business EDU moment with a message about gratitude. She started with two simple words: thank you. From there, she reminded the group that authentic gratitude stands out, especially in business. Deborah pointed out that the most successful people are often the most appreciative. They thank their vendors, employees, partners, suppliers, and everyone else who touches their business. Her message was a strong reminder that while so many businesses focus heavily on metrics, performance, and growth strategies, gratitude may be one of the most powerful tools we have. It makes people feel seen, valued, and treated like true partners instead of transactions.
What stood out most in Deborah’s presentation was the idea that business moves at the speed of relationships. People may forget your pitch or your pricing, but they remember how you made them feel. Gratitude helps strengthen relationships, creates goodwill, and often spreads further than we realize. It was a simple message, but an important one, and a good reminder that appreciation is not soft. It is strategic, memorable, and contagious.
Key takeaways from Deborah’s presentation:
• Authentic gratitude stands out
• Strong businesses are built on strong relationships
• People remember how you make them feel

⠀
Next, we heard a presentation focused on probate planning, including a helpful explanation of Lady Bird deeds. Briefly, a Lady Bird deed, also known as an enhanced life estate deed, is a Florida estate-planning tool that can let someone keep control of their homestead during their lifetime while allowing the property to transfer automatically to named beneficiaries at death, outside of probate. It is often discussed in Florida because it can preserve certain homestead benefits and may help avoid some Medicaid estate recovery issues, though it does not replace a full estate plan and does not keep other non-deeded assets out of probate. Because the details can affect taxes, Medicaid planning, and inheritance issues, this is one of those topics where Florida-specific legal advice really matters.
The presentation also covered some of the advantages that make Lady Bird deeds appealing in Florida. The speaker explained that they can help someone avoid probate on the home while still keeping homestead advantages, and that they generally do not trigger the same concerns people often hear about with the five-year Medicaid look-back period. We also heard that they can be more affordable than setting up a trust in some situations, and that there can be tax advantages such as a stepped-up basis. At the same time, the speaker made it clear that there are still financial drawbacks to consider and that other assets would still have to go through probate if they are not planned for separately. It was a helpful reminder that avoiding probate is not always about one perfect tool, but about making thoughtful decisions based on the full picture.
Key takeaways from the probate presentation:
• A Lady Bird deed can help a Florida homestead transfer outside probate
• It may preserve key homestead and Medicaid-related advantages
• It does not solve probate issues for every asset

Our final speaker was Justin Babcock with Web Education Services. Justin walked the group through what makes a good website and what makes a bad one, starting with design. He talked about the importance of clarity, structure, and helping users quickly understand who you are, what you do, and what they should do next. A site can look nice on the surface, but if it is confusing, cluttered, or built without the user in mind, it will not perform the way it should. His presentation highlighted the difference between a site that simply exists and a site that actually works as a tool for the business.
Justin then shifted into the backend side of websites and SEO, explaining that good design alone is not enough. A strong site also needs to move well, function well, and give search engines the right signals. He talked about what helps a website rank, what helps it load and perform, and what makes it more useful both for visitors and for search visibility. It was a great reminder that a website is not just a digital brochure. When it is built correctly, it becomes a business asset that supports credibility, discoverability, and conversion.
Key takeaways from Justin’s presentation:
• Good website design should be clear, useful, and easy to navigate
• A good-looking site still needs strong backend structure
• SEO and performance both matter if you want a site to move and rank

Our Business EDU speaker was Kert Rhodes with Kleer Title, and his topic was listening. Kert started by asking a simple question that made everyone think: how good are you at listening? From there, he broke down the difference between internal listening and focused listening.
Internal listening is when we are mostly thinking about ourselves and how what someone is saying affects us. Focused listening, on the other hand, is when we are really paying attention to the speaker, their words, and even their body language. His message was a strong reminder that listening is one of the most important skills we have, both in business and in relationships. We often spend a lot of time trying to become better speakers, but Kert reminded us that we actually do more listening than speaking, and we should be intentional about doing it well.
Key takeaways from Kert’s presentation:
• Internal listening keeps the focus on yourself instead of the speaker
• Focused listening means paying attention to words, tone, and body language
• Listening is one of the most important skills we use every day

Next, we heard from Jonathan Hernandez with Coldwell Banker. Jonathan started by sharing photos of his family and talking about how proud he is of his two-year-old daughter, which gave everyone a more personal look at who he is. He has always lived in Palm Harbor, and that connection to the area has shaped both his life and his career. As a kid, he loved the water and spent a lot of time fishing. That passion led him into a career working on boats, diving, and running trips, and eventually he became a captain. He shared how demanding that world can be because when clients call, you have to be ready to go at a moment’s notice. Along the way, he found himself surrounded by people who were thriving, and instead of just working around them, he paid attention, took notes, and learned from them.
Over time, Jonathan took his knowledge of the area, his network, and his experience serving people into real estate. Today, he represents clients in a different way, but the foundation is still the same. He understands people, neighborhoods, and especially waterfront properties. What stood out most in his presentation is that he is really in the business of connecting people and properties. Building trust and developing a strong knowledge base is a big part of what he does. He also let the group know that he handles rentals, which makes him a valuable resource for even more people in the community.
Key takeaways from Jonathan’s presentation:
• He has deep roots in Palm Harbor and strong local knowledge
• His background on the water shaped his work ethic and perspective
• He understands waterfront properties, neighborhoods, and rentals

Jake Trimble
Brightway Insurance - Dittman Agency
727-478-2021
[email protected]
brightway.com/agencies/FL/Oldsmar/0183
Our last speaker was Jake Trimble with Brightway Insurance - Dittman Agency. Jake started by talking about hurricane season, which made his presentation especially timely. He shared that he worked at State Farm for a year and really liked the company, but he also realized it was hard to do the best possible job for clients when he could only offer one company’s products. That pushed him to go independent so he could offer more options and better help clients find the right fit. Today, he can help with a variety of policies, and if there is something he does not personally write, he can still connect people with the right professionals.
Jake also gave the group some practical advice that every homeowner should hear before storm season. He reminded everyone to know the difference between their AOP deductible and their hurricane deductible, since hurricane deductibles are often a percentage of the home’s insured value and can be much larger than expected. He talked about flood insurance as well, pointing out that many properties outside flood zones still experienced flooding two years ago. He reminded everyone that flood insurance has a 30-day waiting period, so it is not something you can wait to buy right before a storm. He also explained that roof coverage is changing, with more policies shifting toward cash value instead of full replacement. One of the most helpful things he offered was to review declarations pages for people so they can better understand what their policy actually says.
Key takeaways from Jake’s presentation:
• Going independent allowed him to offer more options to clients
• Homeowners need to understand both AOP and hurricane deductibles
• Flood insurance is separate and has a 30-day waiting period
• Roof coverage is changing on many policies
