Happy holidays! We hope you are staying healthy and well. If you need a last minute gift for a music lover in your life, we have a variety of Christmas music for violin, viola, and cello! Pop on in to check them out (appointments preferred at this point in time--call us at 847-934-7500).

It’s that time of year. Time to starting thinking about your home’s humidity! As we turn on our heaters, the air often starts to get dry. Be sure to use a humidifier, specifically an in case or in instrument humidifier. Just be sure to strive for the optimum humidity range of 40-60%. A full room humidifier is not able to reach this optimum range. Also be sure to keep your instrument away from vents and exterior walls as much as possible.

If the humidity in your home is out of whack, it can cause a variety of problems including:

· Open seams
· Cracks in the body of your instrument
· Loosening or sticking of the pegs
· Distortion of the bow
· Swelling or shrinking of the bridge
· Soundpost shifting
· Corrosion of strings

We have a variety of in case humidifiers available in our shop. If you need one, or need a recommendation, we are happy to help.
