Last week, we visited Chinatown! Thank you Laughing Ocean, Kathryn, for organizing and leading such an enjoyable excursion! There is so much history to discover in our backyard. And thank you Trailbound ladies for your shared knowledge and willingness to explore!

Train, water taxi, , history, culture, walking and a delicious lunch. 😋

A new destination for Trailbound, Meacham Grove Forest Preserve in Blooingdale. An Illinois protected preserve, it has acres of trillium! Our trail looped Maple Lake and followed a creek in the woodlands. Such a fantastic spring treat! Thank you Donna for guiding Tue. and Thur.!

Spring is all about the ephemerals — those fleeting, dazzling wildflowers that carpet the forest floor for only a heartbeat each year. Last week we wandered through Heron Creek and Reed-Turner Woodlands in Long Grove and were met by thousands of these tiny wonders, a confetti of color beneath the trees.
If you can catch them in bloom, these ephemerals reward you with a reminder to slow down, look close, and appreciate the small, spectacular things that make spring sing.

Our next 4 weeks of spring hikes each display a bounty of these beauties.. Come join us :-)

Destination Savanna, Illinois! Who knew one could have so much fun here? Between exploring the caves of Maquoketa, IA (ask a local how to pronounce) watching baby eaglets in their nest, and soaking in all the wildflowers of the Palisades, we were all wowed!! Thanks to Laura and Barb for helping see and identify all the waterfowl. Thanks to the Trailbound Wild Women who brought the fun and curiousity on the trails!
