What a weekend in Oklahoma! I can’t begin to thank and enough for this experience. My very first Rio. Fought tornados and weather but it happened just how we planned it. Those calls had this dude fired up! This is one of those trips that we will talk about for years.

Happy 3rd birthday, BA! You’re growing up way faster than I ever thought possible.

This is a long one, so consider this your warning. 🦆

There are a lot of folks in our community who could use a breather right now. It never fails during good years, we seem to find every reason to lift each other up. Whether it’s the brands we support, the people we hunt with, or the folks managing the WMAs we rely on because most of us (myself included) can’t afford a private hole. Good years bring out the best in us.

Bad years, though? They tend to bring out the worst.
Just because you shot that one Gadwall hen out of that buckbrush hole you pulled in the poor line, rather than the three mallards you missed while scrolling TikTok—doesn’t mean it’s time to jump online or start blowing up politicians about how terrible everything is.

Yes, this season was absolutely below par. Honestly, it might be one of the worst I can remember in my 15+ years of waterfowl hunting. But I’ve also never seen so much finger-pointing or so many grown men playing the kindergarten blame game on social media. When things don’t go your way, suddenly it’s time to take your toys and go home. Blame shifts to the guys up north with the money and resources to do what most of us only dream about doing every season. I just don’t understand the obsession with tearing down people who clearly worked their tails off to get where they are.

Let’s all take a breath, remember why we started, and get back to work. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
