This morning, I’m heading to Frankfort on ye old West Kentucky Parkway to meet with colleagues and partners to discuss access to behavioral health services for children across the Commonwealth.
We have several meetings scheduled focused on critical issues impacting families and providers, including access to diagnosis and treatment, Medicaid policy, barriers created by commercial insurance practices, and the systemic challenges that delay or prevent care. These conversations will center on practical solutions and how providers, parents, and legislators can work together to improve access to timely, appropriate services for Kentucky’s children.

This past week, I had the privilege of attending the Autism Law Summit—an annual gathering of attorneys, advocates, and industry leaders dedicated to improving access to care for individuals with autism nationwide.
Each year, the Summit recognizes a few individuals who have made contributions to the field in a non-clinical capacity. I was incredibly honored (and surprised!) to be recognized this year as the Provider Advocate of the Year.
While a single name may be on the award, the truth is that none of this work would be possible without every single member of our team at Bloom. Because of their dedication and excellence in service delivery for our clients, I’m able to devote time to advocacy efforts through KY's ABA Advocates trade association, the Council of Autism Service Providers, and our Bluegrass Alliance for Behavior Health non-profit—fighting for better access to care for children and families across our state and nation.
This recognition belongs to every member of our team at Bloom, and to the families and colleagues who inspire this work every day.
Thank you all for what you do in your role to support advocacy—together, we’re making a difference that reaches far beyond our clinics, and it truly is how we move mountains.

On Tuesday, we wrapped up the 2025 CASP conference in San Francisco. I had the honor of presenting on AI's ethical and effective use in ABA with several incredible peers from our field who are a subset of our core workgroup. With exciting opportunities available today and even more on the horizon, leaders in our companies must prioritize informed decision-making and transparency in their AI implementations.
The use of AI in ABA is something we must navigate carefully. Today, when a practice shops for software, they often verify that the software does what it says and is HIPAA compliant. With stand-alone and AI-integrated tools, practices must adopt many additional concepts like vendor due diligence, vulnerability and risk mitigation, internal audits, policy and procedures around the use of technologies, and a whole host of other steps to ensure that they are not allowing excessive risk.
Let's continue this conversation and ensure that we are all making informed decisions that lead to increases in quality, reductions in risk, and all the other good things that AI can bring to our field!

Today, I am honored to participate in International Autism Awareness Day in Washington, D.C., alongside numerous CASP member organizations. This gathering of passionate individuals from across the country reflects our shared commitment to advocating for enhancing access to services for individuals with autism. Tomorrow, we will engage with Senators, Congresspeople, and their staff, emphasizing the critical need for support in this area. Together, we can make a difference!
Calling all BCBAs!
Dr. Becky Nastally is collecting data on the complexities and challenges you experience in your job working in autism. This is a continuation of the work we have done so far with our Caseload Complexity model.
If you are a BCBA who has provided ABA services to one or more people with autism in the last year as part of your job description, please complete the anonymous survey below. It seeks to highlight the hardest parts of your work so that we can have better conversations about supporting the work-life balance of practicing behavior analysts.

Thank you to KYABA for the opportunity this past weekend at the 2024 conference in Louisville, KY, to present what ABA Advocates is, who we are, and what we do! Engaging with so many dedicated individuals at the event reinforced our commitment to improving access to care for children with autism in Kentucky. Collaborations like these are crucial in driving change and enhancing support systems.
We look forward to working closely to make a difference in our communities. Let's continue the conversation and strive for a future where every child receives the care they deserve.
