It’s been one heck of a year; both professionally and personally so this update is FOREVER in the making.

WKYfit is my and Matt Queen’s venture into business ownership after several priceless years at Seva Fitness with Eric Romanak.
Don’t worry, we are still forever friends and we collaborate any time we get the chance. But, all good things do eventually evolve and we found ourselves moving to different locations after many tears from me and jokes from the dudes.

When we say “heart disease” here, we’re really referring to cardiovascular disease—a large category encompassing conditions of the heart muscle and coronary arteries as well as the circulatory system and blood vessels. Facets of cardiovascular disease include coronary artery disease (clogged arteries) and heart failure.
Animal-based foods are full of saturated fat and cholesterol, the building blocks of heart disease. Meat, dairy, and eggs all contribute to the buildup of plaque. As Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., MD writes: “Plaque does not develop until the endothelium or the lining of the arteries, is injured—and it is injured every time people eat meat, dairy, fish, and chicken. This cannot be emphasized enough.

Anyone else struggle with not feeling worthy?
Imposter syndrome?
Constant worry about not doing enough, being enough, trying hard enough? Not doing the right things?
Well, me too. For years.
Maybe it’s my age, or life experience or any number of things; but I am slowly coming to see that I am just fine the way I am, but always striving to improve.
So on this day of celebration of the American worker, I encourage you to take a break from giving yourself a hard time. And I hope you have the day off to relax from your job as well.

Direct imaging studies correlate the degree of hearing loss with atherosclerotic narrowing of the arteries in our inner ear, but what happens when you put it to the test?
In 1960, one of two mental hospitals near Helsinki, Finland, had its menu changed to decrease its patients’ intake of saturated animal fat. Then, after a few years, the two hospitals switched their menus. It was one of the first interventional trials of its kind to suggest that you could decrease heart disease deaths by decreasing saturated fat intake.
What happened to patients’ hearing? It followed the exact same pattern. As their heart disease got worse, so did their hearing. Then, when the hospitals switched their menus, the reverse happened—and not just by a little. Patients in their 50s in the lower saturated fat hospital ended up with significantly better hearing than those in the group in the control hospital who were ten years younger, suggesting that dietary changes may slow—or even reverse—the loss of hearing.
