A friend found this old frame. It filled me with energy to seal it and give it a new look that I had to paint a portal to another world out of here. I’ve always been able to escape from anywhere. Haven’t wanted to paint much this year. Sometimes I feel like starting a night scene then I want to paint a bar or gathering then a weird giant of my cat. I’ll mix the paint and right before I begin I’ll just go mow the lawn and wait for the work week to begin

I had the best time painting this!
Been feeling stagnant. I had planned to apply for a couple art things this year but I have chosen to just keep my head down and work for money as much as possible to keep up with this and that. I wanted a fun challenge to get the paint moving. My bar scenes are playful and energetic but working from a black-and-white photo that I’ve always loved of what looked like an impromptu jazz party sparked the imagination of that Steinbeck time that I can go to in books and memories.

Stuck my head inside the red room bar in Santa Cruz tonight. Not much has changed so I dug up this old painting I did from my 30’s 😂 “day drinking at the red room” still holds up for me 🙌

The New Outer Edge Studio!

A lot of feels went into this painting of the battery fire at moss landing. We live 4 miles from it and the second image is a pic I took as we left with our cat to get as far away from the smoke that was heading towards us as we could. - as I was painting I thought a lot about the Elkhorn Slough and how unique it is to the area for sea and wildlife so I let it flow in close to reflect its unnatural surroundings. I don’t feel it’s necessary to take the image any further with details of trees or tiny cars to show how huge the 500ft stacks are or how the flames dwarfed them.

My favorite Elevator Pitch of all time!!

I designed this grey scale/ Value finder in 1998

story- I was hired to demonstrate paint medium at artexpos around the country and I ran into guy in a crammed elevator so I said “nobody makes a simple value scale anymore and if they do it just has a simple hole punch! How are beginners going to learn values?” he said he didn’t know and had not realized other companies had stopped also. So I then said “how about make like a notch, like a gas station toiletseat.” He looks at me, gives me his card and said design what I mean and send it to him... well this is it.
I was paid $0.08 each for 10 years and my name is still printed for design credit (paid my taxes each year 🤗)

Some paintings just paint themselves… I was mentoring at yac and checking facebook and this photo of my friend Domini on a corvette scrolls by. All my paint right in front of me and a palette knife! Swear this carved out in 10 minutes and that never happens. Dropped it off to her.
