🎓It's HBCU Week, and we’re looking back on a powerful experience when Oxnard College students traveled across the American South to visit Historically Black Colleges and Universities and learn more about the history of the Civil Rights Movement.

✈️ The trip gave students the opportunity to explore HBCUs as transfer destinations while connecting with the movements that continue to shape our nation today. We’re proud to support experiences that expand our students’ horizons and help them feel a sense of belonging in higher education.

🤝 Last week, Oxnard College proudly hosted the annual Ventura County Men of Color Conference in partnership with Ventura College, Moorpark College, CSU Channel Islands, and California Lutheran University.

Throughout the day, students and colleagues heard powerful and inspiring stories, including a keynote from Dr. Victor Ríos, professor and author, who shared his journey from growing up in poverty and struggling in school to dropping out of high school, finding his way back to education, and ultimately earning his doctorate from UC Berkeley.

Attendees also participated in engaging workshops, connected with fellow students and educators, and enjoyed lunch while building comunidad and celebrating the experiences and achievements of Men of Color. The day also highlighted the importance of creating pathways to opportunity, addressing equity gaps, and ensuring Men of Color have the support and sense of belonging they need to thrive in higher education.

🙌 Thanks to everyone who helped make this meaningful day possible!

🇺🇸 On Constitution Day, we reflect on the impact this document has had on our democracy over the past 250 years.

📜 Like our nation, the Constitution’s power lies in its enduring promise of a more perfect union. Through the Constitution and its amendments, and through generations of civic engagement, Americans have worked to narrow the gap between the document’s ideals and the realities faced by those too often excluded from its promise.

We honor those who have served and sacrificed to defend our Constitution, as well as those who have worked to help our nation live up to its highest ideals and extend its liberties to all.

That work is part of the American story, and each of us has a role to play in carrying it forward. We can participate in our democracy by being informed, exercising our rights, engaging in our communities, and working together toward that more perfect union.

🤝 Thanks to our Associated Student Government for helping bring Constitution Day to life here on campus today by sharing copies of the Constitution and encouraging students to learn more about this important document and our democracy.
