Recipe testing this week π©βπ³πππ₯₯
Which will make the cut?
There is a lengthy list of lessons here:
π€ Which of these contain whole grains?
π€ How many different types of flour do you think were used?
π€ Which ones were sweetened with fruit instead of refined sugar?
π€ How did I lower the glycemic impact without sacrificing flavor?
Hidden throughout these recipes are:
π Bananas
π Pumpkin
π Apples
π« Raspberries
π Strawberries
π₯₯Coconut
π΄ Dates
This is what curriculum development looks like at Freedom Kitchen.
Not just making food. Teaching kids (and parents) to become curious. To ask questions.
π Take a guess:
How many different flours do you think are represented in this photo? And which treat would you try first? πͺπ§π«π₯§

What does curriculum development look like? π§
At Freedom Kitchen families learn that food connects us to:
π± Agriculture
π Pollinators and ecosystems
π Geography and culture
π Farmers and food production
π° Economics and food systems
π§ Health and nutrition
π³ Practical life skills
Yes, the kids will learn to cook.
But they'll also learn to ask better questions.
Where did this food come from?
Who grew it?
Why does it grow there?
How does it impact my body?
What happens if that food disappears?
The recipe is often the smallest part of the lesson.
The real goal is helping kids understand the world through food.
That's the depth of what we're building at Freedom Kitchen.
Because food literacy is about far more than following directions in a cookbook.π

CALLING ALL KID ENTREPRENEURS! π¦β¨
Do you have a small business, creative talent, product, craft, or special skill youβd love to share with the community?
This July, Cookies & Cream is looking for young entrepreneurs to be featured during our Tuesday Kids Nights as we celebrate Americaβs 250th Anniversary and the freedom we have to dream, create, and build something of our own.
We want to support and spotlight kids in our community who are already creating amazing things!
If your child would like to participate, please send us a PM on social media or stop by Cookies & Cream.
Spots are limited each week and weβd love to showcase a variety of young entrepreneurs throughout the month!
We canβt wait to see what these amazing kids have created β€οΈ
Where else are kids learning health & nutrition? Gaining food literacy? Reading labels? And becoming independent, empowered, self-sufficient individuals?
They made their own greek salad dressing and compared it to store bought, learned about growing lettuce, and reviewed lessons on pollinators, all in 1 hour.
Kids are the future. The question is: will they be free?

You really had to be there to appreciate all the work the kids put in to this. Creative, competent kids. These are the future leaders.
π Those who can create will create the future π
If you missed it, you missed out.
