Dead Bread started in 2016, stemmed from my love for clothing combined with my experience through the BMX and skateboarding industries. 6 years later, in 2022 we opened a brick and mortar here in downtown Owosso Michigan focusing on continuing to create quality clothing while giving back and supporting the industries/scenes that have supported us. With the opening of the store the local support has been pretty overwhelming and with that support we’ve been able to give back and support so much here locally. That’s really my only goals for Dead Bread.. continue to produce quality products someone feels proud to be wearing and grow in ways where we can continue to support our communities and supporters on larger scales. OWOSSO APPRECIATION POST.

I can’t thank this community enough for its support towards Dead Bread. Although im not an Owosso native this place is home for me and I’m proud to call it that. Dead Bread started in 2016 here in my living room and when opening up the storefront in 2022, I had people ask why not a bigger city like Lansing or even Detroit.. I was asked “is Owosso even big enough for a store like that to work” and I said “we’ll find out but this is where I’m doing it”

Before having the storefront, Dead Bread had shipped to 7 different countries over 3 continents and all over the U.S. but since opening the storefront a majority of the business happens right here in the store. From the local community to people traveling to check it out and that in person experience is something I value so highly. Thank you all from the people who shop with us to the people who share our stuff to the people who even come in to just hang out and talk.

I need to get my shift into gear to finalize my ideas and make them into reality and not only that functional. Time is of the essence so I can’t be too long.I got the front end together and got it all in a roller format good to see it in a half way together still have too much to do for a list to make sense. So I will start with make a list. So the name of the game now is hustle and complete, complete to compete, compete and be distinct! So it’s go time so I should go to get going. You get it!got it! Good! Now stop bothering me I’m trying to get work done!!

July Update: Franklin Grimes

Paint supplies have arrived! I was able to get everything dropped off to the painter, and I have everything pretty much ready to head to the chrome shop. I still have a little grinding to do, but not much. The plan is to have the chrome dropped off by Friday. Just to save a little time and money, I decided to swap engines, after finding out the engine I was going to use was in pretty bad shape inside. I had another engine that I rebuilt last summer, so going to use it, especially now that time is winding down and building an engine really isn't in the budget yet. Also decided against the classic "8 ball shift k**b after my cousin gave me a really cool k**b off of a pull lever from an old slot machine! I'm really starting to get excited as we are heading into the last couple months here, and excited to see how everyone else is coming along. Definitely a lot of cool builds so far!

July Update: Jon Wysong

Where has all the time gone? As the date rolls closer I seem to find myself further from the finish line then I expected to be at this point. With the wedding and honeymoon behind me I will have to dump all my free time into this bike to have a hope of getting it wrapped up. I was able to make some headway and get my sissy bar wrapped up and my front end mostly together besides a slight set back due to my own oversight, but that will be rectified soon hopefully. As far as the plan from here it goes bars, foot controls, oil tank, battery/electrical box, exhaust... and everything else. Wish me luck it's looking like I'm going to need it.

Update time

The past few months have been a bit of a struggle of balancing family time with motorcycle build time. Family time has been taking priority over the build because all the end of the school year fun, dance recitals for my daughter and fishing trips but I have been making time to still make forward progress on the build. This bike has been in my head since the day I got my current daily bike. My daily is a 1984 xv1000 that has had my touches put into it but I have always wanted to build a hardtail for it but never could wrap my head around how or had the will to actually cut my bike in half. This build has given me the push to actually build it. So building exactly what’s in my head has been the biggest struggle. I have built many parts one time and it was exactly what I wanted other parts have taken multiple try’s to get it right and some parts never got built because the way the frame had to be didn’t make sense for what I originally wanted. One thing is for sure, this won’t be like any other Virago out there.

July Update: Terry Scott

Update:

Been plugging away at my build got the bodywork and paint done and I think it looks good. The custom seat came out good but since it is white I have to be extra careful not to stain it up while working on the bike.
The forks and triple trees are on the bike now since I got all the pieces made to mount it along with the front wheel. I also made some pieces so my risers and.riser extensions for the handle bars would work on the harley front end, I got the rear wheel mounted and started to make the brake linkage since the rear wheel is also a Harley part ( which helps me have the required Harley parts for the contest LOL). The brake is on the right side and a stock Triumph has the brake on the left side.
Next on the agenda is to build my custom foot pegs and put the engine in the bike plus let’s not forget I have to make the mounts for the lights
Plus some stuff I am not thinking of. However as always be safe be cool and as always be excellent to each other.

Update

The hardtail is fully welded in. I have the seat mounting brackets tacked in place. Need to get the fender mounted and sorted. I took the front forks off and tore them apart and ran them up north to Derek’s machine shop and had him kind of learn me how to shave fork lowers. The list of things needed to complete the bike somehow keeps getting longer. The plan is still to have the tins and frame to the painters by July to give me plenty of time for final assembly.
