Rich color palettes, vintage-inspired textures and geometric patterns are making a major statement in Kirkby Design’s new Underground Vol. III collection. ✨ Drawing inspiration from historic London Underground seating fabrics, these velvets reinterpret iconic transit designs from the 1930s through the 1970s for modern interiors.
Slide 1 - Northern
Est. 1960s
Created by pioneering textile designer Marianne Straub, Northern became a familiar sight throughout London’s Underground system and double-decker buses during the 1970s and 1980s. 🚇 Its layered geometric movement still feels remarkably modern decades later.
Slide 2 - Piccadilly
Est. 1970s
Originally produced by British Furtex Fabrics, Piccadilly features a bold interlocking pattern first associated with major train refurbishment efforts tied to the London Underground system. 🔳 The graphic repetition and symmetry give the fabric a timeless design quality.
Slide 3 - Caledonian
Est. 1930s
Designed in 1938 by celebrated textile designer Marion Dorn, Caledonian brings Art Deco influence into a classic tartan-inspired moquette originally used on the Metropolitan line. 🎨 The pattern reflects a moment when public transit textiles became an important part of British interior and industrial design history.
