Recruited out of Florida's Immokalee High School by the University of Miami, James proved to be one of the most successful running backs in the school's history. James ranks second in all-time University of Miami rushing yards. He was the only running back in the university's history to post two consecutive seasons with 1000-plus rushing yards, and he ranks first in school history with the most 10
0-plus rushing games. In 2001, James donated $250,000 to the University of Miami, which is the largest donation ever made to the university by one of its former athletes. James was inducted into the University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame on in 2009. During the 1999 National Football League(NFL) draft, James was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the first round as the 4th overall pick. He is one of the top NFL all-time rushers, having amassed over 12, 000 yards during his 11 seasons in the NFL. James earned the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1999, four Pro Bowl selections, and four All-Pro selections. James won the NFL rushing title in his first two seasons with Indianapolis Colts. James left Indianapolis as their all time leading rusher with 9,226 yards in 2006 and was given a Super Bowl ring from the team when they won Super Bowl XLI. James continued his career with the Arizona Cardinals, playing three seasons from 2006 - 2008, earning a NFC Championship and an appearance at the 2009 Super Bowl XLIII. James spent the latter part of his career with the Seattle Seahawks in 2009 and officially announced his retirement from football in July 2011.
