Travel in time with us to the Colorado Silver Boom and experience The Ballad of Baby Doe - a rarely performed American Opera.
🇺🇸 An All-American Story.
Set in the gold rush era of Colorado, the opera is based on true events. It’s sung in English and filled with characters pulled straight from U.S. history. No subtitles, no barriers—just a great story.
🎟️ If you haven’t grabbed your tickets yet, now is the time. Recently featured by the Orlando Sentinel, come see why The Ballad of Baby Doe is making headlines in Central Florida.
Think the Opera isn't for you?
Here's what our Director, Eric Pinder, wants you to know:
Douglas Moore’s opera romanticizes life in the rugged mining towns of the American West, glossing over the stark realities of boom-and-bust economies, extreme poverty, and unchecked opulence. And as Augusta, Horace’s former wife, keenly suggests, not all of his business dealings were above board. Yet, opera is not the genre of historical scrutiny—it is the realm of passion, beauty, and the human heart. At its core, this piece is a love story, and few operas capture that spirit more poignantly than Baby Doe.
If this is your first time experiencing The Ballad of Baby Doe, you're in good company. Not only is this a Central Florida premiere, but many seasoned opera lovers have shared with me that this will be their first time seeing it staged.
At its heart, this is a timeless tale of love, ambition, betrayal, and heartbreak. Think historical drama meets real-life romance, all set to music that will move you.
