As part of our 2025 Project of the Year recognition, we’re proud to spotlight the I-55 – Kings Crossing (Formerly America’s River Crossing) project in Memphis, Tennessee.
The I-55 Kings Crossing project was developed to improve traffic flow and safety along a critical transportation corridor crossing the Mississippi River. The project will replace the existing I-55 bridge, originally constructed in the 1940s. As the first signature cable-stayed bridge in Tennessee and the only structure of its kind along a 400-mile stretch of the Mississippi River, the project required extensive geotechnical exploration to support design and construction. Located within the influence of the New Madrid Seismic Zone—the most active seismic region east of the Rocky Mountains—the project demanded a comprehensive understanding of subsurface conditions to support one of the most significant transportation infrastructure investments in Tennessee history.
UES provided exploration services in support of the geotechnical investigation and design efforts for the new Mississippi River crossing. Working under an aggressive schedule, our team operated around the clock to collect the subsurface data necessary to support bridge foundation design. The project required drilling borings to depths of approximately 400 feet below the river bottom, establishing a new benchmark for geotechnical exploration in the region.
UES is proud to have supported the development of a transformative transportation project that will improve safety, mobility, and resiliency along a vital interstate corridor. Once completed, the new Kings Crossing bridge is expected to become the largest project in Tennessee Department of Transportation history and will provide a modern transportation link designed to meet current seismic standards and future traffic demands.
Congratulations to our team members and partners who helped lay the foundation for infrastructure that will serve communities, businesses, and travelers throughout the Mid-South for generations to come.

As part of our 2025 Project of the Year recognition, we’re proud to spotlight the Lee Memorial Hospital Acute Care Campus in Fort Myers, Florida.
UES was selected for this project through our long-standing relationship with the Lee Health Systems team, marking the third ground-up hospital project we have supported together. Our team provided a full range of services, including geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing, threshold inspections, fireproofing, fire stop inspections, and structural steel inspections throughout the project lifecycle.
What makes this project especially unique is that it represents the first new acute-care hospital campus developed by Lee Health in Fort Myers, all while the existing Lee Memorial Hospital continued serving patients nearby. The new campus brings inpatient, outpatient, surgical, and rehabilitation services together in a single destination, creating a modern healthcare hub designed to meet the region’s growing needs.
The project required extensive coordination and technical expertise, including two-phase geotechnical exploration, pile monitoring and testing, daily earthwork and concrete testing, threshold inspections, and around-the-clock support for concrete placements, welding, steel bolting, and fire inspections—all performed without disrupting the construction schedule.
The community impact will be substantial. As one of the fastest-growing regions in the country, Lee County is experiencing increased demand for healthcare services. The new campus will replace the existing hospital, add 92 beds of capacity, and is projected to create more than 6,500 jobs while generating an estimated $500 million in employee earnings and $1.3 billion in sales throughout Lee County.
Congratulations to everyone involved in delivering this transformative project and helping build the future of healthcare for Southwest Florida.
