Grace With Dogs
I believe every dog can rise to our expectations & be great. We simply have to communicate with cle
From training a simple sit, to training more advanced service dog tasks - our dogs need clear feedback on their choices as they happen. To Joey, the marker word "GOOD" means "keep doing what you're doing". In just a very short time...well, you can see what Joey's tail does whenever his mom says GOOD. 😆
Here, Joey's owner is encouraging him to rest his head on her lap until released - a service dog task to both interrupt anxious behaviors & comfort her as needed.
Do you think Joey's enjoying training & having a job? 😉

Sweet Niffler, wondering when he can go back to the training game we were playing.
Rufus is working on his AKC Scent Work Intermediate Title! When his mom brought him home, she wasn't ready for his working dog energy and needed help channeling his drives into something useful and manageable. So demure, so mindful. Look a these two! 👀😍 Rocking the PLACE command in a busy home is an essential skill for your dog. How are you doing after Milton? How are your dogs doing? I just learned about "Hurricane Brain" from a friend who has lived in Florida longer than I have. It's how we deal with all those tricky emotions leading up to, and following something big & ugly like a major hurricane. It's a tough time for our dogs, too because they pick up on our stress. Take time to recharge & rest if you've just been through the chaos of this storm. Involve your dogs in that process - play, cuddle & have fun with them. Healing goes both ways.
Psychological Recovery Guide for Hurricane Brain From Traumatic Stress Crisis counselor Dwight Bain gives his advice on mental health during a hurricane.
