I've heard a lot of math teachers talk about how much they love "vertical whiteboarding." I didn't think doing problems like this would make such a difference, but it does! Here is why:
1. It makes it easier for students to work together, and standing up forces them to be active, not passive.
2. It's easy to see where everyone is, so I can help groups who are struggling, or they can look at each other's work for guidance.
3. Students aren't afraid of writing a "wrong" answer like they are on worksheets, so we end up moving much faster.

We're happy to be on break! We learned a lot about motion this semester in all physics classes, and this was a fun activity to explore torque and rotation.

I've been going to the conference for six years, and I have gotten so many great resources there. It was fun to have the chance to be a presenter this year! Physics and eighth grade teachers enjoyed learning about analog and digital information. This is a newer standard, so we were able to share ideas for the best ways to implement it.

Funnest way to learn about friction: overlapping smooth pages from textbooks. Adding lots of surfaces and squeezing them together makes it much harder to pull them apart. Yes, this is the only time we use actual textbooks.

This week we got to have lessons from other teachers and discuss how we think about learning. Fun to remember all the chemical names like phosphate and chlorate.
