We’ve seen the comments. We understand the frustration. And we want to clarify what’s going on with the SunPower name, the bankruptcy, and what it means today.

In simple terms:

SunPower Corporation (1985–2024) = them

SunPower Inc. (2025–present) = us

Same brand name. Different companies.

SunPower Corporation is the company that filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in August 2024.

SunPower Inc. is the result of a separate company acquiring certain SunPower assets —including the SunPower brand name—through court-approved transactions at the end of September 2024 and then rebranding as SunPower in 2025. That’s who we are.

We chose to carry the SunPower name forward because it represents nearly four decades of pioneering innovation in solar—from setting efficiency benchmarks to helping define the modern solar industry. We believe that legacy is worth protecting and building on, and we’re committed to doing so responsibly, transparently, and with a long-term focus.

So what does this mean for customers?

SunPower Corporation customer leases and PPAs were not acquired as part of this transaction. Those agreements were transferred to another company during the bankruptcy process. As a result, SunPower Corporation customers are not SunPower Inc. customers, and SunPower Inc. does not service or administer those contracts.

We know this has been confusing. We hope this helps clear things up, and we’re committed to continuing to communicate openly and keep people informed as we move forward.

We're excited to announce our partnership with REC, a globally recognized leader in high-quality solar panel manufacturing.

SunPower has a long history of innovation in solar cell and panel technology. By the time of the SPWR Initial Public Offering, SunPower Corporation had already developed the most technologically advanced solar panels in the industry. As SunPower Inc., we now add to that record by virtue of our collaboration with REC.

Our first joint development effort with REC is a new solar panel that SunPower dubs the “Monolith” – a solid-black panel that weighs in at the U.S. OSHA single-worker residential panel weight limit of only 50 pounds – while producing a record 470 watts of power under standard test conditions.

SunPower has exclusive rights to the officially named REC Alpha Pure-TX 470W panel, which is in production now.

Our next step will be to upgrade it to become ‘bifacial,’ that is to be able to collect light from both sides – a feat SunPower demonstrated on the NASA Helios solar-powered airplane in 2001 – that will raise the Monolith output power to over 500 watts.

A new and exciting day for SunPower! We have officially signed a Letter of Intent for an all-equity transaction to acquire Cobalt Power Systems.

Due to our recent acquisitions -- currently 85% complete (Sunder) and 40% complete (Ambia) -- and the fact that Cobalt is a remote stand-alone company with a different business model, we have decided to manage it as a standalone subsidiary company – which will soon be blessed with over 1,800 sales people, cost-reduced corporate functions, and stock options in a publicly traded company for its employees.
