RABIES ALERT

The Oregon State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory has confirmed a positive case of rabies in a large brown bat found last week at a rural Oregon City address.

For information about rabies and the importance of vaccinating your animals, click on the link to the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association website.
https://www.oregonvma.org/care-health/zoonotic-diseases/rabies

Because rabies is invariably fatal in horses and a risk to public health, the American Association of Equine Practitioners recommends rabies as a core vaccine for horses.

See the Oregon Health Authority website for information about bats and rabies, including what to do if you find a suspicious bat on your property.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a significant impact on everyone's daily lives. As of now, we are still open during our regular business hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:30 pm. Emergency calls are answered 24/7.

We are currently available for your horse's medical care, subject to social distancing practices that we have implemented for the safety of our staff and clients.

We are limiting traffic at our clinic. If you need to pick up medication or supplies, please call ahead to make arrangements.

Surfaces at the clinic and in Dr. Sundholm's truck are being cleaned and sanitized regularly and frequently. As far as we know, horses do not contract or spread COVID-19, but stall doors, halters, and other touchable areas around the barn are potential fomites for transmission.

You can help by maintaining the required 6 ft. social distancing at appointments. When you arrive at the clinic, please remain in your vehicle and call 503-632-2100 for instructions.

If you are feeling ill (fever, cough, shortness of breath, runny nose, sore throat, or flu-like symptoms), please call to reschedule your appointment.

The health and safety of our employees and clients is of utmost importance. Thank you for your understanding as we all learn to cope with these challenging times.
