“We had a plan and vision to have a natural birth. We had chosen Hoag Irvine because of this. Unfortunately our insurance wouldn’t cover a midwife, so this was the first hiccup in the birth I was envisioning. My sister-in-law, Alexa, recommended Jaymie, their doula. I, too, could not recommend her enough! (You’ll see why later). Fast forward to our 39th week appt and this is when a second hiccup occurred and our doctor recommended induction. This was not part of our plan and with all the research and what I had learned, induction scared me. A few days later we saw that the doctor went ahead and scheduled it for March 2 (my due date was Feb. 26). I was not showing signs of going into labor and was coming close to my due date. I knew a due date was just a date they give and didn’t mean anything. So I put my faith in God and prayed for the anxiety to go away about the pressure of induction. We had our 40 week appt the day after my due date. That morning I woke up and felt like I might have been starting to have minor contractions the night before. By 2 p.m. when we were getting ready to leave for our appt, I was almost certain I was now having contractions. So we threw our bag in the car in case they sent us over to the hospital. We got to the appt and the doctor checked me and I was a 3. She did a membrane sweep and that got me to a 4. She sent us on our way and the contractions picked up a lot from there. Because it was 4 p.m. on a Friday and we knew it would take an hour and a half to get home, we went to a farmers market and a park to kill time to see if they would progress more. They did, but I just wanted to be home at that point. So we sat in an hour and a half of traffic and got back home at 6:30 p.m. Jake pulled out some food to bbq thinking we weren’t going anywhere soon. The contractions continued to progress so we walked around the backyard and then I got in the shower and got sick. By this time, Jake was saying it was time to go so he reached out to our doula. She suggested I do the Miles Circuit because my contractions were every 4-5 minutes, but weren’t lasting long… (Cont. in comments)
