So, questions surround this mailer that got sent to voters. The gist of the mailer is that the successful Recall of OUSD Board members Miner and Ledesma will result in a $1 Billion bond and increased taxes.

This claim is untrue and is confusing to people who don’t know how this works. Prop 13 established that local school boards have ZERO authority to raise taxes without voter consent. Here is a review of how a LOCAL school bond gets adopted:

1. A local school district creates a plan that includes a list of projects with a specific dollar amount that sets forth the cost to taxpayers,

2. Next, that plan is worked into bond measure language to be placed on the ballot if, and only if, a SUPER majority of the school board publicly votes to place it on the ballot during a regularly scheduled election,

3. If it gets that far, then a super majority of VOTERS (55%) must vote yes for it to pass.

Hopefully this answers questions or concerns! Vote your conscience, know your facts.

Measure S projects are being completed in two phases. Phase 2 construction at Villa Park High School will begin the week of December 11.

Demolition of the old 500 building will begin next week. You will notice increased truck traffic and noise associated with heavy equipment. The construction companies have been advised not to start before 7:00 a.m.

We are very excited about the great things happening at VPHS and appreciate your ongoing support. For questions, please contact Principal McCuistion at [email protected].
