GOALS

In observance of Christmas, the GOALS office will be closed the week of December 22nd and will reopen on December 29th with regular hours. GOALS wishes you and your family a joyous and magical Christmas.

For many parents, understanding a doctor’s instructions is essential — especially when a child is too young to explain how they feel. One young mother enrolled in the Greater Orange Area Literacy Services (GOALS) English as a Second Language (ESL) program because she wanted to communicate confidently with her child’s pediatrician.

Through hard work and the support of GOALS instructors, her English has improved, and she now feels more comfortable speaking with medical staff. What once felt overwhelming and stressful has become manageable, empowering her to better advocate for her child’s health and well-being.

Thanks to United Way of Orange County support, GOALS continues helping families break language barriers and build confidence in everyday life.

This Season of Giving, we’re celebrating the determination of a young woman working toward her GED through Greater Orange Area Literacy Services (GOALS) .

Homeschooled and without a diploma, she struggled to find employment and felt her dream of serving in the military slipping away. Through GOALS’ GED preparation classes, she’s building the foundation she needs to change her future. She even shared that she was hired at her current job because she is actively attending GED classes.

Thanks to support from United Way, she now has access to the tools, guidance, and encouragement she needs to pursue her goals — including her dream of serving our country. 💙

This week, we were honored to hear from Dawn Burleigh, Executive Director of Greater Orange Area Literacy Services (GOALS)!

GOALS is a local nonprofit helping adults in our community improve their literacy skills through free GED preparation, English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, and tutoring for individuals 16 and older.

After more than 30 years in the newspaper industry, Dawn knows the power of literacy to change lives. We’re grateful for her dedication to education and for sharing how GOALS is making a lasting impact right here in Orange County. 💙📚

GOALS will open at 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 4, 2025

As of today, the GOALS office will be closing at 1 p.m. and will maintain this schedule for the rest of the week. Normal hours will resume next Monday.
