OPL’s Meet Our Staff series continues with Janis, our Library Page. Here are some fun facts shared with us:

1. What is your current staff pick that you’d recommend checking out?
Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver. This book easily ranks among my top three favorites. I’m a big fan of literary fiction and books that navigate the human condition. Along with my recommendation, I would give a disclaimer since it does touch on some heavy topics. I think people can learn a lot about empathy from reading fiction and from this story in particular. Barbara Kingsolver’s writing draws you in and creates a character you end up feeling protective over. While the protagonist faces countless struggles, I would reassure the reader that the main character does end up having a (relatively) happy ending. 😅

2. What’s a library service you love recommending to patrons and why?
The State Parks Pass! As much as I love to stay in and read, I think being out in nature is such a great way to spend free time.

3. What is your favorite old or new spot in Orange and why?
A friend of mine recently introduced me to Filo Dessert. They sell a variety of desserts, but I would highly recommend the Istanbul Coffee ice cream!

4. Coffee or tea? What’s your favorite way to drink it?
Coffee, usually iced. But I’ll never turn down a matcha or a London fog.

5. What is your favorite part about working at the Orange Public Library?
I find it interesting to see the wide range of books patrons borrow, whether they're studying for an exam, learning a new language, or excited to finish a series. If a certain book is frequently checked out, it captures my attention and inspires me to read it too.
