How is it already time to start prepping for another weekend of farmers markets? This week absolutely flew by!

Farmer John is on the road to our processor Elstner Meat Processing LLC, Weimar Meat Company. USDA Processing Facility picking up not one, but TWO batches of beef! Keep an eye on our online shop—inventory updates will be happening shortly.

Back at the Farm, Farmer Kristin is busy cleaning up from this week’s chicken processing while also packing weekend pre-orders and getting everything ready for market.

It’s not too late to place your pre-order for:
• Beaumont Farmers Market
• Saturday Delivery
• Saturday Farm Pickup
• Bay Area Farmers Market
• Fall Creek Farmers Market Buy Local Market
• Sunday Mount Belvieu Drop Spot

Why pre-order?

Pre-ordering guarantees your items are packed and set aside specifically for you. It also gives you the flexibility to arrive at the market when it works best for your schedule, knowing your shopping list is already waiting.

The reality is that some of those “SOLD OUT” stickers get added to our signs within minutes of the market opening. Pre-ordering is the best way to make sure you don’t miss out on your favorite items.

For those of you who prefer to let the meat speak to you before deciding what to bring home, we completely understand! There’s something special about walking the market, seeing what’s available, and building your shopping list on the spot.

We do our best to bring as much inventory as possible to every market!

Whether you pre-order or shop straight from the coolers, we’re grateful for your support and can’t wait to see y’all this weekend!

It’s hard to believe we’re already gearing up for our next chicken processing over the next two weeks!

One of the things that’s unique about our farm is that processing day doesn’t just mean one batch is finished—it means another is just beginning. As soon as processing wraps up, the chicks currently in our brooders head out to pasture, and 900 2 days old chicks arrive to take their place.

If you’re trying to keep track of how many chicks have come through the farm this year and find yourself counting on your fingers, don’t worry—we’ve been there too 😂

📢 A quick scheduling note: Farm pickup will be closed the next two Wednesdays while we process chickens. We will also be closed July 1–2.

As always, please check the notes at the top of our online shop page for the latest inventory updates, ordering information, pickup schedules, and other important farm announcements. We do our best to keep that section updated so you always have the most current information.

🦃 Yes, we know it’s only June… and yes, these little poults are this year’s holiday turkeys!

One thing about local farming: when we sell out, we can’t just call a supplier or run to the store for ingredients to restock. Every animal is planned well in advance and raised at its natural pace.

These poults were actually ordered months ago. While most people aren’t thinking about Thanksgiving yet, we’re already preparing for it.

Good food takes time, and that’s a process we’re proud to stick to.

We had a surprise waiting for us in the barn today! These two ducks showed up and apparently decided our farm was a pretty good place to hang out.

They’re back! Our next round of 10,000 personalized egg cartons have arrived at the farm. It may look like a pile of cardboard, but to us it looks like thousands of dozens of eggs headed to your kitchens. 🥚❤️

No, we didn’t neeeeeed goslings.
No, we weren’t planning on buying goslings.
Yes, there are now goslings in our master bathroom because we got home with them at almost 11pm.

Tomorrow’s after markets mission: figure out where in the world we’re putting another brooder.

Oh… and we may or may not have also came home with 4 more sheep. 🥸

We’re welcoming a new group of ewes to the farm on Monday. We’ve always brought in lambs shortly after weaning and raised them here on the farm, but we’re taking the next step and starting our own breeding program.

These ladies will be the foundation of that program and, after quarantine, will be integrated into our rotational grazing system.

What’s that big lump on their chest?

That’s their crop—a built-in storage pouch! Since chickens don’t have teeth, they can’t chew their food. Instead, they quickly fill up their crop, where feed is stored and softened before moving on through the digestive system.

Think of it as a chicken’s personal snack backpack. 🎒

We’ve been a little quiet this week… but farm life after days of rain means we’re either:
🌧️ taking a break while it pours
OR
🚜 fully focused on not getting stuck in the mud 😂

The animals still need feeding, chores still need doing, and the mud keeps trying to win… but we’re making it work one slippery step at a time!
