Medications for HIV work a certain way in the body. How they move through the systems in your body and how long they last as the medicine is understood through Pharmacokinetics or PK.

Scientists study PK to determine the best dose for an drug. The dose must be high enough to keep HIV from reproducing, but not so high that it causes many side effects.

The timing of medication doses has been carefully calculated to keep the drug in your bloodstream at levels that will control HIV.

Understanding PK can help you understand why taking your medications on a prescribed schedule is important.

Moving Forward, Living with HIV: Considering Education or Training Today, women living with HIV of all ages are changing their lives with education. Learn about many different types of programs and how to access them.

over 644,000 people used PrEP in the U.S. in 2025 — a record high. 🎉

PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a daily pill or long-acting shot that reduces the risk of getting HIV from s*x by about 99% when taken as prescribed. It's one of the most powerful tools we have to end the HIV epidemic.

But here's the catch: the people facing the highest risk aren't always the ones with access.
➡️ Black Americans: 39% of new HIV diagnoses, only 15% of PrEP users
➡️ Hispanic/Latino communities: 34% of new diagnoses, only 18% of PrEP users ➡️ Women: 20% of new diagnoses, only 10% of PrEP users
➡️ Young people (13-24): 18% of new diagnoses, only 10% of PrEP users
➡️ The South: over half of new diagnoses, only 39% of PrEP users

These gaps come down to real barriers — cost, insurance, finding a provider, transportation, and stigma. And with federal HIV prevention funding and coverage protections under threat, those barriers could grow.

Everyone who could benefit from PrEP deserves the chance to access it. That's how we actually end this epidemic — not just with better medicine, but with better access for everyone. 💙
