FUN FACT: People are psychologically primed for fresh starts on Mondays, making it the peak day for starting new healthy habits like dieting, exercising, or quitting smoking. This is called the "fresh start effect," essentially a weekly "New Year's" moment for health goals!

What are somethings you might be working on for yourself this week after the wonderful holiday week?

On this date, December 7, 1941, we pause to remember Pearl Harbor โ€” a day that forever changed our nation. We honor the brave service members who stood in the face of unimaginable adversity and those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Their courage, resilience, and unwavering dedication to our country will never be forgotten. Today, we reflect, we remember, and we reaffirm our commitment to preserving the legacy of all who served.

Tomorrow is FUR FRIDAY!!!! โ„๏ธ Meet Ice Spice! โ„๏ธ

Come to the center from 10a-2p and meet Ice Spice! ๐Ÿค

This frosty beauty is ready to melt your heart and warm up your couch! Sweet, affectionate, and full of personality, sheโ€™s the kind of girl who loves a snowy adventure just as much as a cozy cuddle. โ˜ƒ๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

Ice Spice is one of Wanderers newer. She came to them as a stray and, sadly, was never reclaimed. Now sheโ€™s on the hunt for a forever home where she can finally settle in and be loved.

Miss Ice is absolutely the Queen Bee โ€” and sheโ€™ll let you know it in the most charming ways! She adores people, but would thrive best in a home with older kids or adults. She also prefers to be the only animal in the household, but trust usโ€ฆ she more than makes up for it with her sweetness, loyalty, and the way sheโ€™ll steal your heart the moment you meet her.

Sheโ€™s about 4 years old, with plenty of life, love, and wiggles ahead of her. This gorgeous girl deserves a warm home, a soft bed, and a family to spoil her long before the holidays arrive.

Donโ€™t miss out on Ice Spice โ€” come meet her tomorrow! ๐Ÿฉต๐Ÿพ

Paul L. Douglass

In honor of Veteran's Day we will tell the stories of some Madison County Residents who were nominated for the 2025 WAVEM Madison County Veteran of the Year. This award honors a veteran who has never stopped serving even after leaving the armed forces.

Paul Douglass grew up in and around the Village of Canastota, NY. In the fall of 1970 he saw his birthday drawn for the draft. Rather than having the military dictate where he would go, he left the Canastota Central School District and joined the Marines Corps in January of 1971. He trained at Parris Island as an infantryman. He later spent time at Camp Geiger in Florida, in San Juan, Puerto Rico and at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina. Twice while in the Marines he was scheduled to go to Vietnam before his orders were cancelled. While in the service he earned his GED, and married Debbie Nodine, whom he met during his senior year of high school. He was discharged in September of 1973.

After he returned home he went to work at Oneida Limited (later Revere Copper Products Inc.) and raised two daughters. Paul became active in the American Legion in Sylvan Beach and The American Legion of Canastota, NY Post 140 . He served as the Post Commander in Canastota, the Madison County Commander and the New York State District Commander and the New York State Department Vice-Commander. Paul also was active with the American Legion of New York State's Boys State held annually at SUNY Morrisville. He also was active with the Forty & Eight Society for veterans and the American Legion Riders.

Paul passed away August 22 after a brief illness.
