Join us this Friday, September 11 for the opening of Material Sentiments, a duo exhibition by Jess Machacek and James Enos.

Material Sentiments explores the emotional and sensory associations embedded within the built environment. Drawing from architectural details, surface patterns, and overlooked fragments encountered in daily life and while wandering, the work shifts between photography and dimensional constructions that abstract familiar forms through shape, color, texture, and repetition. Materials and images become records of place– inviting attention to the small details that shape how we experience, remember, and form attachments to the places we encounter and move through.

Jess Machacek Jess Machacek is a curator at ArtLifting ArtLifting. Her work explores the space between the natural and the constructed, using familiar materials drawn from domestic, commercial, and suburban environments to blur the boundaries between landscape, architecture, and everyday life. Her practice considers how ideas of beauty, leisure, and nature are manufactured, revealing the nostalgia and artifice woven into our everyday surroundings.

James Enos is a Professor and Director of the School of Art at TCU. His practice includes walking, fieldwork, and collaborative projects that examine how people experience and shape the places they inhabit. His work focuses on infrastructure, energy, and ports, as well as the multiple social, cultural, and environmental meanings they hold.

portals + pathways, a solo exhibition by Holly Kranker opens this Friday, July 10 from 6-10pm!

Holly Kranker’s recent sculptures explore the interplay between place, memory, and the suspension of time through diverse mediums and materials. She engages with seemingly mundane objects, interpreting them through a non-linear, dream-like, and irrational framework to unearth latent connections across time–past, present, and future. Central to these explorations is the concept of home—not merely as a physical location, but as an evolving entity.

Holly’s artistic practice is a continuous dialogue between the physical and emotional
landscapes of our lives. Through the lens of home, memory, and the exploration of objects, she
seeks to capture and preserve the essence of these experiences. By reinterpreting everyday artifacts, she aims to illuminate the connections between our personal histories and the objects that shape them, celebrating the ways in which care, nostalgia, and sentimentality intertwine.

Born and raised among the Midwest Plains, Holly Kranker received her MFA in Sculpture + Experimental Media in 2025 and was recipient of a Fulbright College of Arts + Sciences Graduate Fellowship from the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. She previously graduated Summa Cum Laude with a BFA and an emphasis in Commercial Art and Interior Design from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, Kansas.

Kranker has exhibited nationally and has received awards from the Mid-South Sculpture Alliance, Birger Sandzèn Memorial Gallery in contemporary metal craft, George A. Spiva Center for the Arts in photography, and has work included in the National Park Foundation-Lewis and Clark Historic Trail permanent collection. She has been an artist-in-residence at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts, Nebraska City, NE. Holly has been awarded an Individual Artists Fellowship through the Nebraska Arts Council, and has received an Amplify Arts Micro Grant.

Opening tonight in Detroit at the College for Creative Studies’ Valade Family Gallery — States in Play: MdW All Partners brings together a network of artist-run and community-centered initiatives that form the backbone of the Midwest’s independent art landscape, including Omaha’s own Project Project featuring a select archive of past exhibition and music event posters with a floating shelf made out of our signature OSB-board wall material with related ephemera. Thanks for having us MdW Coalition!

Saturday, May 30 (noon-4pm)
Sunday, June 7 (noon-4pm)
Wednesday, June 10 (4-8pm)

Artists can choose to donate 50% or 100% of sold work and can donate multiple pieces for sale. Let’s hang art and hang out! (1818 Vinton Street)
