May 17, 7:39 PM – Okay Omaha heads up! Storms are now starting to move into the metro and could be capable of 60 to 70 mph winds. We’ve had a few tornado warnings too, but believe the tornado risk is mainly a spin up tornado mode. The storm threat should exit the metro around 9 to 9:30 PM 

🗑️🗑️It’s trash night for me in NW Omaha. Might be a good idea to wait and put the trash bin out until early Monday morning, unless you want your trash to be your neighbors trash!!

5/17 4:45pm Storm Update - Storms are now beginning to fire off along the frontal boundary in central Nebraska. There are now storms with a tornado warning on them by Grand Island. The storms currently near Sioux Falls have been producing 80+ mile per hour winds, just to give an idea of the level of severe weather ingredients in Nebraska today.

All storm hazards are on the table over the next few hours. Expecting storms in Omaha sometime after 8 PM and should evolve into more of a line of wind by then, but spin-ups are going to be possible along the line. Much of East Nebraska could see an inch of rain tonight. 

5/17 Sunday Omaha Severe Weather - Ask me any questions you have in the comments! More thunderstorms will develop Sunday afternoon. Both today and Monday will have a higher tornado potential than the last few days when it was primarily the wind and hail concerns, which still remains the primary concern today (very large 2-4.5” hail and 70-80mph wind).

Posted is the NWS outlook plus the tornado outlook, which is focused over Norfolk, NE and into Sioux City, IA. Our thought is storms form after 2-3pm, and the main wave of rain into the metro after 6pm.

May 16 5pm Omaha Weather Update - Tornado watch just got issued across west Iowa. Likely will see one issued across east Nebraska too. Tornadoes, tennis ball hail and 60-70mph wind are possible in Saturday evening’s storms. Anywhere along and north of this warm has a severe storm chance tonight, starting after 5pm.

5/16 SATURDAY STORM UPDATE - Severe storm chances around Omaha increase heading into the evening. Best areas to see severe storms with large hail and 60-70mph wind will be from Omaha and south of I-80. A second wave of storms will move in from central Nebraska and Kansas later tonight.

5/15 6pm - SEVERE STORM WATCH in effect for Omaha this evening. Damaging hail of 1-3” in diameter looks to be the main hazard this evening. Joseph is in for me this evening. As we’ve been predicting, severe weather is likely all weekend through Monday. Please check the forecast every morning for changes to timing, impacts.

5/14 OMAHA STORMS FRIDAY EVENING - Active storm pattern for Omaha begins Friday! After a HOT day near 90º, the first round comes Friday evening, mainly after 6pm for Omaha and southeast Nebraska. The main concern is 1-2" diameter hail and 60mph winds. We have more chances at severe weather this weekend through Monday.
