Always chasing good food, hidden gems, and old stories. Tell me! I’m a curious, community-minded storyteller based in Omaha, Nebraska. I’ve spent decades using creativity to bring people together, whether that’s through neighborhood projects, gardens, or simple conversations on a bike ride. I’m the founder of the Benson Community Garden, a space where neighbors grow food, share knowledge, and reco
Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there. I hope your day was as good as mine. I’m a lucky guy, because my wife and daughters took me to Walnut, Iowa for their annual Father’s Day antique festival, and spending the day with them is the best gift I could ask for.
This festival is the real deal, with vendors from all over the country and antiques you’ve never seen before, plus a whole lot of memory lane for an old guy like me.
I almost walked off with a vintage Christmas elf blow mold, the kind we used to light up in front of our house every December.
We spotted an autographed Richard Simmons. And my daughter found the score of the day, a beautiful 19th century ceremonial Oddfellows robe, then handed me the decorative helmet that went with it.
But the real highlight wasn’t any of the antiques. It was simply being together, surrounded by all that history, with my daughters. So grateful they enjoy spending time with me! Thank you to my wife and daughters for a day I won’t forget.
Have you ever been to the Walnut antique festival? Tell me what you’d have taken home.
An influencer in Argentina made a video about my infamous butter cruise moment, and I have no idea what she’s saying. Could be the nicest thing anyone’s ever said about me. Could be a warning. I genuinely cannot tell. 😂🤣😂
What I do know is this whole thing has connected me with hundreds of wonderful people in Argentina since February, and now my wife and I are seriously thinking about visiting.
So, my Spanish-speaking friends, a little help? What is she actually saying? I can’t find a way to translate it, and the suspense is rough.
And if you’re in Argentina, tell me where we should go. I’ll be the guy who’s very excited and cannot read the menu.
Omaha’s hidden riverside catfish joint since 1952.
The Surfside Club sits right on the banks of the Missouri River, about 4 miles north of the Mormon Bridge, serving World Famous Fried Catfish, Chicken, and Corn Fritters. If you want to feel like you’re on vacation without leaving town, this is the place. Live music, a view of the river, and food that keeps us coming back.
Those corn fritters are my guilty pleasure, the chicken is always great, and I hadn’t had the catfish in ages until I stole a bite tonight. Perfection.
🧐🕵🏻♂️🔍
Here’s the ridiculous part most people don’t know. Back in the day, boats heading up and down the river would “moon” the guests while they ate. Happened all the time, and the whole place cheered and cracked up every time. A little piece of Surfside history.
Have you been to this Omaha secret yet?

Hot, sticky spring evening here in Omaha, and my wife made us a really amazing dinner.
She made Garides Me Anitho, a Greek shrimp dish cooked in butter and fresh dill. (She used Argentinian shrimp ❤️🇦🇷) We had it with a Greek salad, warm blue cheese bread and Tonadita butter. Simple food, done well, and we ate every bite.
My wife did all the work on this one. I just showed up hungry …and always grateful. ❤️💍♾️

After a long fun day of forging for berries, shopping at the farmers market, and working in the garden, it’s awfully nice to sit down to homemade dinner of a fresh Cobb salad with a French baguette and my favorite butter, ❤️
Some company made an ad with an AI generated video of me at the end! 😂🤣😂

Delicious and FRESH! 🌲🍎
We stumbled across something this weekend at the …Saro Cider out of Lincoln makes an NA elixir called “Pines and Needles”, and it’s so refreshing. Juniper berry, pine, rosemary, and lemon peel brewed into a semi-sweet cider. Zero alcohol. One hundred percent delicious.
My wife made Thai Chicken Cashew Lettuce Wraps for dinner and we cracked one open alongside them. On a warm spring evening that combination was about as good as it gets.
Since stepping away from alcohol I have been on a mission to find drinks that actually feel special, not just a substitution. This one delivers. It tastes like something a really talented bartender made for you, not like something that is trying to apologize for not having booze in it.
Have you found anything interesting at your local farmers market lately? And if you know of a great NA drink I need to try, drop it in the comments. I am always looking for the next one.
