Sometimes I get a tap on the shoulder by security to back away from the painting, my face had gotten too close when trying to figure out "how the artist got that texture" or "came up with that color" or how they "laid that undercoating to get such depth." Please know, you can get close to my most recent works at the LALA Gallery. 😉 It is encouraged!

Open 7 days a week - the large brick warehouse on the north east corner of 13th and Nicholas. Located on the main floor just a couple doors down from the cute bodega

Pop in there on the way to see today's lunch menu, grab a delicious cup of coffee at Archetype Coffee and a yummy basil and cheese scone at Sweet Magnolias Bake Shop and wander through the hall of the LALA Gallery of visual delights! I encourage you to get close. And then back up and look at how the colors and shapes can shift and change with a wider perspective...Open until the end of March.

Finally completed another large scale painting. Oil, oil stick, acrylic on canvas. This is one of the “desert circus” series’ secondary stories: transient lives. Oftentimes animals represent human beings in my work. It allows the stories to be more inclusive and create connections in a variety of ways.

There were questions this week like “how do you know when you are done?” Well this one I had to sit on for some time. I usually layer a base of acrylic to get the overall shape of the piece mapped out. But I dove right into the oils much earlier in the game. Which demanded more gestation time (weeks) during the paint drying process.

It felt so good to wrap her up this week, she is on display in the hot shops first floor “hall galleries” through the month of October.

It’s so exciting! A brand new, larger piece that’s part of a “desert circus” series just made it into the Bemis 2024 Art Auction! I dropped the piece off today for framing and can’t wait to see it complete.
